Earthquake in California this week?

It would make sense given the moon being closer than it has been in years, the full moon, as well as the equinox. Tidal changes putting more pressure on the tectonic plates. Plus the fact that California is "overdue" for another big quake... it's been 17 years since Northridge.

Yup, I felt it... but I'm like 175 miles away. I lived in Sacramento during the 1989 quake, and I felt that one as well. I also felt the 6.5 San Simeon/Paso Robles quake in 2003.

Fortunately, I'm relatively safe from harm where I am... here in the Valley, our soil type and relative lack of nearby faults prevent us from sustaining any type of serious damage. There was an article about it a few years back, I'll see if I can find it or something else that details that information better than I can remember. The closest fault to me is the Sierra Nevada fault, which was responsible for an earthquake in the late 1800s on the other side of the Sierra Nevada's from where I live, though it was felt strongly as far north as Sacramento.

A huge earthquake in the San Francisco bay area could have a tsunami effect on us, if a perfect series of events were to occur anyway.

Pffft, it was on Fox news. You can't believe a word they say. I'll make you a deal, if a big quake hits this Saturday, I'll change my voter registration to Republican and watch Fox news every night. :D

And shouldn't you be posting this somewhere else?

I'm gonna laugh my ass off it there is a big earthquake here in Saturday.

I can't post somewhere else yet, at least not seriously. :willy_nilly:

I'll watch my cats. Kandy was acting really weird the night before Japan's earthquake. Looking out the window and listening. Looking at us. Looking back out.

Not like she normally does. Something had her quite antsy. I didn't really think about it until the next morning and hearing the news.

We're majorly far away. Tho, I read somewhere that Orlando's seismic meter picked it up 15 minutes after. So......

Yeah, animals know. They know when hurricanes are coming. Perhaps it's the barometric pressure?

Never discount an animal acting strangely.

They do use animals as one form of natural disaster warning signal I have read, for volcanoes especially.

It's just spotting and interpreting animal behaviour that's the difficult part.

we had a 6.4 earth quake hit Ottawa Ontario and parts of Quebec today. happened at 1:30 pm today. its making its way around the world this earth moving.
If Quebec happens to disappear, which of course would be a damn shame ;), the beach could be just out your front door. Think of all the possibilities Dollface.
