Sorry I never heard it called a tag before. How is the color of their plate supposed to stop them from driving? it just identifies them as having previous DWI convictions.
And they'll know there's a hypothetical bulleseye on their back. They'll think twice before they get behind the wheel drunk because they'll be scrutinized by anyone else on the road.

And you've never heard the phrase "tax, tag, and title" in a car commercial?

I've heard of tax and title, but not tag.

I really don't think that will make them think twice. Don't you think getting arrested and potentially getting into a wreck is enough of a "bullseye" to keep them from driving? But they don't because if its a person that doesn't take things seriously they'll get sloshed anyway and drive. Just take their license or vehicle away.

Im kinda torn on this. I think humiliating someone like that is a bit much...even for good reason. But...it does serve to warn other people that they had priors so people will watch out when near them...but that doesnt keep anyone from running into a drunk driver on their first offense either.

I dont think the bright pink plates are a good idea realy...but maybe depends on the reasoning behind it. If its supposed to eb for cops...it doesnt realy make sense...cops can run plates on supiciouse people...and find out about priors right away.

dunno...as i said im kinda torn...not sure what to tink

If they don't take it seriously, how would taking their license stop them? I knew a guy who had 3 DUI convictions and wasn't allowed to drive whatsoever. Yet he drove to work every single day, despite the abundance of public transportation in northern VA. And no, he didn't have an exemption for driving to work, he just did it anyway.

Since the tags are assigned to the car and not the driver, I don't like this at all..

What if it's a one car family? Should the wife have to suffer if she has to use the car? How about the kids who are old enough to drive?

After the third DWI you shouldn't have a license anymore... you already proved you are a danger to society and cannot be trusted not to drive while intoxicated.

What will you say to the family this guy with the bright pink license plate just killed because he was drinking and driving again? Sorry, but didn't you notice his pink plate?

Like I said, take their vehicle away.

So getting a pink plate in this situation wouldn't help... since you can't get a plate for you car without a license

I would say for the people that didnt pay their fines, or it took them having to get picked up for them to take responsibility. But, the people that owned up to their mistake, paid the fines and did the time, it would be unfair.

Tims point about the one car family is the only wiggle room I see here. How many people are killed each year by drunk drivers? And we're talking after the 3rd offense here...pretty damn hard to muster sympathy for them and their pink tag.
