Drugs.

What makes people decide to do them/experiment? Older posters, during your college/party years, did you decide to experiment? Any posters in their college/party years now that are making these decisions? Most people I've talked to who have experimented with drugs tells me they were "smart" about it and read up on the effects (long and short term), etc. Then I've met the unfortunate few who experiment because someone told them it "feels so good".

I ask because I've lost friends to drugs, am ex boyfriend was in jail for drugs (as was my brother) and I've met people who are permanently damaged (physically and mentally) that resulted from drugs. I've only ever experimented with 1 and no longer do that anymore :ninja I never had any desire to try any hard drugs like so many of my peers. So to reiterate, what is the reasoning behind it?

By the way, if this is in the wrong section, Mods, feel free to move it. Please and thanks :)

The reasoning behind it all usually deals with people having problems in their personal life, wanting to fit in with a certain group of people, or use it as a means of relieving common stressful things such as work. I believe it is more of along the lines of personal problems these days which is a real shame to be quite honest. This generation seems to give up on themselves and have no one to reach out to in a sense. I, too, have seen what drugs can do to the ones you cared about or even loved at one time. It is very painful to watch in my opinion rather then actually doing drugs. I really feel that society should focus a bit more on the whole drug issue in this day and age a bit more than usual. So many lives are being lost and great minds wasted on things that could have been solved if only someone had listened to them or had taken the time to know them for who they really were for that matter. I just hope I can help someone as I venture through my own life. Just my own thoughts as usual.

What about to the "placing no blame just wanting to trip balls and escape reality for a while" reason.
You know taking the responsiblity for your own actions and trying a drug that seems worth trying.
"Just say no" is a great campaign but the ones that say yes need to stop blaming other people for thir peer pressure and say "I tried pot, I inhaled, and I enjoyed it. And guess what, it didn't kill me"

I respect your opinion on the whole "Just Say No" or "Be Responsible For Yourself" concept, but it is not that easy for certain people to do these things. Peer Pressure is far stronger in today's society then it was long ago. Everyone wants to fit in and find a quick solution to their own problems. I am glad you did not die while trying pot, but that does not mean it will not have an effect on you in the near future. Also, it is societies responsibility to take action on people doing drugs. It is our society that created and introduced these drugs to people after all. It did not just appear out of thin air. Perhaps drugs are enjoyed by some just for the thrill of it all, but that is rare and to be quite honest it has been researched as well. Usually people who do drugs are just looking to fit in or relieve stress from problems going on in their lives. It is very easy to tell people to "Just Say No", but you do not know their situation or their state of mind when approached to do drugs. So as always...it is easier said than done. That is just my opinion though. I believe when you say we should have more responsibility for our actions, but that does not excuse societies responsibilities either.

I did pot a couple/three times, the last resulted in my traveling through space. It was the worst experience ever- I was ready to call the cops, call the ambulance, and kill myself. I just wanted it to end!

I did snort something once, White something, but it didn't really effect me, and I've never had an urge to try again.

I guess I just can't wrap my head around something as idiotic as "I wanted the idiots from school to like me"

I know...

...it is a bit ridiculous, but desperate people do desperate things. Not just drugs either. I believe it is the desire and determination of wanting to be apart of something that appeals to people that makes a person do just about anything overall. I suppose that is where society comes into play so to speak. We have to change the whole "...if your cool like us, then you'll do what we do..." trend because in all honesty that is the trend nowadays and again...not just with drugs either.

As I have said...it differs for other people when talking about drug experiences. Glad to see that you are alright though.

you sure it wasnt just pot you smoked and was laced with something. sounds like you were tripping

I have no clue. The first time I freaked out about my foot, and actually rubbed the polish off on the bedsheets. So I don't think I react well anyhow.

I also had a TON the last time, and ate it, instead of smoking. It did come from a different source. But I think that is what scared me most- I had no clue what was in what I was buying. Although, my "buddy" didn't react the same way.

considering marijuana is not a hallucinogen in much of a sense the practical thought is that it was laced, often times in states with shittier weed they do this by dipping it in LCD or less commonly, codeine

I went through a stage of getting stoned quite often. I really enjoy it, I literally just laugh until I fall asleep.
Havent done it for a couple of years now which is a good thing! I may enjoy it but I sure as shit dont wanna be doing it all the time.

I have also done something (and I cannot remember what it is called), it is a liquid you put in your drink and its supposed to make you feel drunk I think. It did nothing to me.

Ive never done anything harder, mainly because I am too scared and I have heard that if you are worried going into it, then you are more likely to have a bad trip. Im just not interested in that...or the comedown.

My brother really got into his drugs when he was younger, luckily he never had any bad experiences. He still does them occasionally, he is a dj so surrounded by them all the time, but he has really cut down which is great!

I remember when I was in my last few years of school, all the people my age were completely scandalized by the older kids doing Es and things:
Now it is completely common place, even the "good kids" pop an E on a night out. This is all since I left NZ and it shocks me!

Over in Europe taking drugs is just like having a drink on a night out. The number of times I have been offered cocain by a stranger in a bar is just mind boggling.

Im not a big anti, drugs are bad rah rah rah person. I think it IS possible to take them safely.
But Im still not gonna be standing in line...for a line :p

LOL sounds like me when I'm stoned :24: Laugh my ass off till I pass out.
Yeah, I live in one of the top party cities in the US, so when I head down to the beach where all the clubs and parties are, it's everywhere.

Never been much of a drug user. In HS, everyone experimented with pot. I didn't try it until I was 20 and didn't know how to inhale it until a year or 2 later. So, I've never been high on anything illegal until I was over 21. I did go through the typical drinking phase 18-23, but only for fun with friends. I've never allowed myself to become dependent on any type of chemical other than the ones naturally occurring in my body and brain. Why would anyone need more??

It took you two years to learn how to get high? You weren't meant to be a pothead :24: :jk

I failed at being a teen lol. All I've had is alcohol. I figure when you can contemplate a blade of grass for an hour when sober, drugs are kind of a waste of money.

:24: Oh god...

only drug I trust is weed, and that goes for cigarettes, alcohol too

:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

Cause all the cool kids were doing it

:p

Pfft, that excuse is SO 1980s.

I'm pretty sure those aren't the ONLY reasons. Like Wyndex said:

LOL what the hell?? Maybe it was salvia. How long did your trip last?

why not?

I only ask because there seems to be a consensus that "drugs are bad, m'kay"
but why not try it if trying it wont kill you

Some people just don't have any desire to do so.

I agree with his statement that there are more than those reasons that I have listed, but I was only stating the obvious and more plentiful reason on why people turn to drugsl. I am sure there are people who just find it quite enjoyable, but I doubt others do and still turn to it because it is all they have in their life to relieve stress.

I was introduced to drugs in the late 60's. Love, peace and all that crap and pretty much anyone and everyone was doing them so I never gave it a second thought. I tried almost everything you can think of during that period except for smack and did 'em for about 10 years. It helped me make it through the days of living, or shall I say existing on the streets. After I cleaned up my act and became a productive member of society I smoked weed on a regular basis for about 3 more years. For some strange reason the night of my stag was the last pull I ever took. I have no regrets nor do I miss it.

I know :) Wasn't raggin' on ya. :p
