Saw this discussion going on another forum thought I'd post it here, what do you guys think the legal drinking age should be?

Personally I say 18, in most parts of our country you are considered an adult at the age of 18, and as far as I'm concerned if I'm old enough to join the military and kill for my government then I'm old enough to have a damn drink.

this debate has been around forever (18 vs. 21) and to be honest it doesn't matter the age as long as the consumption of the consumer is responsible enough to know when enough is enough.

It's 18 in the UK and to be honest I agree with it. Sure you have the odd occasion of binge drinking but on the whole they are quite responsible. Least I was.

First time I drank I was 17, nothing bad has ever happened to me as a result of my "underage" drinking.

part of me says let individuals be responsible for their actions

a 14 year old can often be more responsible than a 22 year old

yet i fugure if that really worked it would have been done by now so probably 18

18 seems adequate if they understand that no driving goes along with that right.

However..... 21 it is here. Most people have matured more by then.

With the statistics on drunk driving.... you'd swear no one thinks they'll get caught or that 'it' won't happen to them on having an accident causing injury, property damage or death.

Here it's 18. Back home it 19... Both work.. If you are old enough to be considered an adult by law.. then you can make your own choices.

That's how I feel about it too, at 18 you can smoke, and join the Military, if you can poison your lungs and kill/die for your government I see no reason why you can't drink.

I dunno i drank once in a while before turning 21. I think if you're old enough to die for your country you're old enough to get drunk stateside.

My opinion is 18yrs old
But, with the exception to that: If you DRINK excessively, then you should be restricted again until age 21.

Or, well, if you get in trouble, due to your drinking, then you should also be restricted until age 21...

Really, I don't care when people drink, just as long as they:
1: Don't kill or harm themselves.
2: Don't kill or harm anyone else.

Same thing goes with smoking Marijuana.

Despite the fact that you can lose your life at 18 in the military and that makes you an adult my opinion is that 21 should be the minimum drinking age. Even at the age of 21 you still have lots of drunk driving by them which can injure or kill themselves or innocent others. I really think the age should be 25 when one can drink to give the kids more time to mature and think and learn about what drunk driving can do. But seeing as education on drunk driving has increased in different ways I guess I'll go with 21.

No matter what age it is...They will get it if they really want it

I wouldnt be surprised if most kids do it cause its Illegal for them to do so. After 21 for most people it loses it "cool" factor.

same with Smokes. "hey look at me, im so cool cause im 15 years old smoking a cig"

The problem with 18 is it is too easy for kids to get the booze.

We had it lowered back in the early 70's and there were too many instances of kids being drunk at school. And the parties were epic.

I could live with it being 18 if drunk driving was taken more seriously.
