http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/sci...can-cool-you-down We got in touch with Ollie Jay, a researcher at University of Ottawa’s School of Human Kinetics—and an expert in all things sweat-related—to ask a pressing question: is this claim for real? His Thermal Ergonomics Lab, it turned out, had published a study on this topic just a few months ago.Their answer, in short: Yes, a hot drink can cool you down, but only in specific circumstances. “If you drink a hot drink, it does result in a lower amount of heat stored inside your body, provided the additional sweat that’s produced when you drink the hot drink can evaporate,” Jay says.

I know someone who drinks steaming-hot coffee in any weather... and i mean ANY weather! I never quite understood why LOL

To me nothing is better in hot weather than iced water! Especially, if I am outside

I have to at least start my day with a hot coffee even if it's 100 degrees outside.

I do not know any any scientific reasons behind this but my father always says I need to drink hot tea in the hot day to cool me down and quench thirst. If you drink cold drinks, you become more thirsty. This seem to actually work.

Drinking hot fluids in hot weather isn’t harmful in itself, but it’s not always the most comfortable choice.
Hot drinks can actually make you sweat more, which may help cooling in some cases, but it can also feel unpleasant when your body is already trying to stay cool. In hot weather, most people naturally prefer cool or room-temperature fluids because they help reduce body temperature faster and keep hydration easier.
