those laws were for the ancient jews, to regulate law and cleanliness. Theres alot of preventative medicine laws in leviticus. Theese laws do not apply today for christians.

That's the point of the letter to Dr. Laura in the OP. Basically everyone discards at least part of the bible. It's just a matter of how much you discard. Sensible people discard Leviticus 18:22.

And the context of the verses in the OP is different than the context of Leviticus 18:22?

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Great rhetoric for a world where there are no Gays but quite useless rhetoric where nature produces Gays.

Religion is supposed to reconcile the population. Not divide it.

Laws are good if just but to discriminate and denigrate those who do no harm is evil.

I think the original post was meant for exactly what it got until now hehe, general agreement and puns :)

We have a winner! :)

Discarding any part of the Bible is a sin regardless of the time, no? This is why it is so hard to accept religion in entirety for me. Each one decides which part of the Bible, which is supposed to be God's word, they decide to follow. Shouldn't it be all or nothing?

Then by that logic, homosexuality is ok now since that was law for the ancient jews... right?

Good grief.
Can you imagine the carnage and death if more Christians followed God’s laws.
It is a damned good thing that Christians do not follow God but follow only tradition.
If they followed God, we would likely have to annihilate them. The same with Islam and all the other Abraham cults.

You make a good point. I think it is unrealistic to try to use the Bible to determine morality. You need to know right from wrong before you read the Bible. And fortunately most people do.

Personally I don't read the Bible. I think there are much better books out there.

Religious should stop calling the Bible the Word of God. Clearly it is a creation of ancient superstitious men and should be called "Man's God Book". ;)

I agree. You'd like Bishop John Shelby Spong. He's been saying for years we need to stop attaching the label "Word of God" to oppressive and destructive doctrines. An example he gives of a destructive doctrine is "be fruitful and multiply." That may have served the ancient Hebrews well but that is not what our society needs.

That is what many religions want... big families mean more worshipers. :)
