Read above..

Very religious family and shame.
So he woke up one day lost his religion...and decided to shame his family?...I dont buy it.

True, but you don't have to listen to the radio, read the internet news and so on.. Why do you do it ?
What does that have to do with his announcement?...I guess is his pastor and family dont either...read above ;)

I guess they would if they want ensure no one uses it against them
Isnt that the reason you stated it was "hidden"...if that is the case...being announced is something that can be used as it takes out the speculation.

For some it is..
For all it is...if you hide something then announce it...it is from one extreme to the other...just not for some.

Some are oushed past how much they can handle.. Stress can do that to you and force you to take big leaps.

If one hides something due to reaction...how would coming out prevent that same reaction...said person just put on the table what they been hiding....which will cause they reaction they been hiding.

He will. Now that it's out in the open I would imagine he will. If not he is like any other star and just wants attention
Thats avoids my statement......If one didnt hide being gay/ then there wouldnt be anything to announce...that is going about ones business.
Perhaps or he feels he wants to protect himself from any possible future problems
So he hid it to prevent problems...but announcing it will protect them problems from happening now?
Actually you are wrong.. Gossip that is proven right is what keeps it alive and going strong.. The old I told you so.. The media thrives on it.. Look at how much they dragged Martina Navratilova until she finally came out and said she was gay.. Had she said so before she became a US citizen she would never had been admitted..
This re enforces what I have been saying...if one doesnt deny to begin with then its non issue.
One surely doesnt have to announce ...just go about ones business being seen swapping spit with the same sex is announcement enough.

Actually you said it.. No one has ever proven Michael Jackson did anything wrong and circumstances have been odd to say the least. Yes he did pay off one but when in the limelight you try to get right out of bad publicity as quick as possible. While I never really cared for him personally and the fact he was around so many kids, you must admit that it is odd only had was it two sexual assault charges laid against him, one that was due to a film shot and not a complaint as such.. That said I always thought he was an odd character.

He admitted to liking boys{but not having sex with them}
Point is he never "announced it"...only responded to the questions.

This basketball player made the announcement rather than just going about his business.
Since when should we have to announce our sexuality?
Who cares?

Thing is his announcement is being treated like an achievement...there is no achievement here ...stating ones sexual preference is not an achievement.

If I said I like pork but dont like chicken it is not an achievement....its stating a preference.

Lets go a step further...If one pretended to be gay for decades then announced he was straight...one could expect ridicule for being dishonest to the public.

Why should it be treated differently when the table is turned?

As said all this can be avoided by just being ones self.....I can almost understand the guy hiding it...but if he doesnt want to hide it anymore...ones doesn't announce it...he can hold hands on the bench with one of the other fellows...this way he isnt hiding or announcing.

So if two or three guys come out he will no longer be the exception to the rule..

How will his lifestyle give him an edge..

How can someone ask for more money due to their lifestyle. Many gays work in jobs and have never used it as an excuse to get more money so precedent would already exist. The only thing he would be covering himself for are benefits for a partner, which more regular couples are entitled to..

He can play the sexuality card...after all Obama is proud of him.;)
I like women...maybe Obama will call me as I made an announcement of my preference.....its an achievement right.

All the media has to say is....they dont want him on the team now that he is gay.
He can also file suit and say he was denied after announcing he is gay.

Another reason I do not believe in all this racist and sexuality crap...if we are all equal..then lets all be equal and stop talking about it.

I like women...maybe Obama will call me as I made an announcement of my preference.....its an achievement right. Liar ( Joking ), you said you would never talk to Obama.. :p

All the media has to say is....they dont want him on the team now that he is gay. So if another guy has a small weeny can he claim they are letting him go due to that :24:
He can also file suit and say he was denied after announcing he is gay. He would have to show they really used the Gay card. Do you think they would be that stupid.. :clap

Another reason I do not believe in all this racist and sexuality crap...if we are all equal..then lets all be equal and stop talking about it. It's exactly what he is asking for.. To be treated equally.. But you can't be equal if you keep hiding who you really are..

Answers above..

Answered the only two questions worth answering.
Since it can cost you your job or they can use it against you.
Are you saying if he hadnt announced he could have lost his job due to with holding his sexual preference?
Its actually the other way around...an employer cant demand to know your sexual preference.
seems you do

I am with Fred on this one...we will have to hear about this crap for some time now.

Answers to what?
The sexuality card is a pretty powerful card.....same as the race card.
Thing is someone pretty much knows your race when they see you.....but it can be used as "you refused to hire me because I am Iranian"
The sexuality card you play later for "security"
To be played at anytime....the guy can play it as soon as employment is in jeopardy and claim "because I am gay"
It is easier to just keep the guy rather than being unjustly labeled prejudice.
In order to be equal we all need to be equal.....meaning we all get dealt the same cards.

Why hide it in the first place?

Maybe he wasn't necessarily hiding it...but just hadn't came out and said "yes, I *am* gay. It's no different than Clay Aiken. I knew the first time I laid eyes on him that he was gay. When Adam Lambert finally made his announcement (after he finished American Idol) and did his interview w/ Oprah he even said "I didn't realize I had to say it. I mean, HELLO, look at me!" LOL

Lets take Michael Jackson for instance...Gay...and for little boys I might add....I look like an ass by stating such as he never announced it.;)

I do believe that Michael Jackson was gay...but after his death, when I looked into the allegations against him a little more, I actually no longer believe that he was guilty of molestation. Even the victim from the court case came forward and recanted after his death.

Closet equals hide :p

Also in his 12 year career and being seen public continuously one would have to be hiding it to not be seen holding hands etc.

I dont watch american idol very often...I watch manly stuff such as fighting and monster trucks....I do not want people to think I am gay thus avoid American Idol:D

I do believe that Michael Jackson was gay
Agreed....but since he never announced it..it was never topic...good move on his part.
Now had his career started to fail he could have announced and took the free publicity...at that point you have nothing to lose.
Take this basketball player here...nobody special really...except the guy that announced he was gay.
He will gain fame from the announcement through talk shows..and probably have a book written portraying him as being brave ...truth is,he is a puss and wants to use being gay for future gain rather than learn to shoot baskets proper.
Even the victim from the court case came forward and recanted after his death
Some heads need to roll then...for had jackson had not been rich he would have been someones bitch in the joint for something he didnt do.

Are you a minority with in your country ? If so in which way ( generalization is all I ask )..

If so have you ever suffered discrimination ? Please describe what type and how ?

*shrugs* I agree w/ that. But I don't think we should have to be TOLD to be supportive of someone who is gay anymore than we should have to be told to be supportive of a woman who chooses to breastfeed.

Agree,
He made a choice to be gay...neither calls for support nor hate.
If i said I like women who do oral...should I announce and ask for support.
How about KFC over Churches Chicken....its just a choice.{preference}
There is nothing here to be condoned nor condemned ....I sure as hell wont clap for him.
Score some points and I will clap.

Here a woman is considered a minority....everything but a white man is a minority.

I tried to play on the girls basketball team...they wouldnt let me.
Same for cheerleader.
Went to run for miss black America......they said I wasnt black enough and wasnt a woman.

Have you heard of reverse discrimination?
Its still discrimination.
Go to a big Chinese restaurant for instance...yep you guessed it "all minorities"
No go into a big American restaurant and try having a staff of all white men and see what happens
same with factories etc.

Why do you ask...I didnt see the relevancy of your question to my response .
Which was below

Drivel.. Whining white Man's answer to Boo Hoo I can't get my way so let me complain that everyone else but me seems to get what they want.. Yah yah the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...

I have and it's no fun.. But one does not have the power you seem to think one does.

Wow?
Its rather simple...he had these feelings and thoughts and made the choice to act upon them.

Kinda scary isn't it
Merely an emotional response unrelated to intermediate topic.

D

No whining...just facts.
Women are a minority here...you asked if I ever was a victim of discrimination.
As stated you have to understand reverse discrimination.
An example is a business making bids for business that receive public funds...you can have low bid but they are required to give it to the minority if said bid is x amount percentage within a percentage higher.
Same work same materials...but the minority is favored...thus why many put the business in the wife name{as she is a minority.}
Choosing a minority that has the higher bid is discrimination....not sure about all states but thats how it works here.
Again not whining just stating facts.
When you consider that many businesses run in a very narrow profit margin this is major
Fair is giving it to low bid regardless of race or gender.
This would be the equivalent of say market price for copper....since you are a white man I will give you x amount a pound but give the woman behind you more as she is a minority.

teen I like listening to sports radio when I am driving. Not because I am a fan of every sport but the radio options are limited in this area. Today I turn on the two local sports radio stations and am greeted with a speech on tolerance. All they want to talk about is an announcement by a basketball player that he is gay and how we all need to show more tolerance. They proclaim he is a hero on the level with Jackie Robinson for kicking the hinges off the closet.

Knowing what a basketball player does with his "Junk" really doesn't matter to me unless he is breaking the law. What and who he likes to play with is a private matter between him and whomever he chooses to play with. I don't see how this is a bigger "SPORTS" story than anything else going on at the moment. I really have no interest in the subject.

Well it is big just because gay marriage debate is pretty famous these days, that's all. Sports fan aren't just interested in baseball performance but also in a player life, you know, the glamorous aspect of it, sad bad true, some people get into sport with a dream of becoming famous instead of improving their team scores :(
