Didn’t I say, "Don’t sit with sad companions?"
Don’t sit with anyone but those
whose hearts are glad.

Since you are in the garden, don’t go to thorns.
Sit amidst the roses, jonquils, and jasmine.

- Quatrain by Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi

Everyone gets sad at one time or another. Sometimes those enduring sadness need a happy person to shed some light on their situation. I don't get this poem.

Kind off an egoistic point of view.
You know, whenever my friends are sad I feel obliged to support them, not turn my back on them.

Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

I agree and I do understand the poem though through its emotional point of view.

It simply states ''AVOID BAD COMPANY""!

Actually 'don't sit with anyone but those whose hearts are glad' doesn't sound like 'bad company', it sounds like people who are miserable aren't worth being around. If they meant 'bad company' then they should have said it.

Not a very nice sentiment.

There is a proverb in Arabic which says: The advice of a sick to a sick is worthless...perhaps the Maulana wanted to say that?:)

That could be it. I don't think it's very good advice though - sometimes the people who can offer the best advice are those who've been through the same troubles, or are still going through them.

but I think nobody goes to a sick person for 'advice'--he/she would definitely contact a doctor even if be assumed that some patients know much about medicines or treatment :)

If you're talking about people who are literally sick then no, it makes no sense whatsoever to consult them rather than a doctor.

Gays nearly have equal rights in the US, but that doesn't mean they can shout from the rooftops that they're gay. There's still a big problem with homosexuality in many areas of the US, but I don't think it's any bigger of a problem here than much of Europe or Asia.

Homosexuality is not looked upon as good in Eastern society though some people are indulged in it but covertly.

Pakistan Supreme court has given them all rights ( except buggering) including the right to vote but they are not allowed to marry unless, some say, they have certain physical disablement that could be medically treated.
I have heard of at least one such case in Pakistan recently!!

This should be good news for gays all over!:)
