I don't know any Sophies except small children. Sophie wasn't a popular name when I was born. Not like it is now. So I don't know. I do know that if I had been named Bryttnee or Princess or McMaddysen or something equally stupid that my career would likely have less to do with finance and more to do with a pole.

ELSA Gender: Feminine
Usage: English, German, Swedish, Finnish
Pronounced: EL-sə (English), EL-sah (German)
Short form of ELISABETH
Every baby name has a name meaning. Some names with multiple origins have more than one meaning. Look below to see the meaning of the name Elsa.

English meaning of the girl´s name Elsa:

  • variation of Elizabeth, God of plenty
German meaning of the girl´s name Elsa:

  • variation of Elizabeth, devoted to God, noble
Hebrew meaning of the girl´s name Elsa:

  • God is my oath
Scandinavian meaning of the girl´s name Elsa:

  • variation of Elizabeth, consecrated to God
Spanish meaning of the girl´s name Elsa:

  • truth

That being said I have yet to sit down and talk or meet with another Elsa other than my own mum. What I do know from others is that other Elsa's they have met were also very fiery , opinionated and intelligent...so I'm happy being an Elsa.

The Elsa in my family came from Germany during the Second World War. My Grand dad was on tour as he was in the merchant Marines and he heard the name which once back in the UK ended up as my mothers name.... its pronounced El Za, not El Sa as most people say. I never correct people for how they pronounce my name, either way is good to me...all means Elsa:nod::thumbup
