Many people rely on prayer, faith, or philosophical reflection during loss or hardship. Others question belief during the same moments. How does belief affect coping during stress or grief? Does doubt also have a place in personal growth?

Yes, faith provides you comfort during your difficult times. Belief gives you a conviction that there is someone looking after you.

Belief, whether spiritual, cultural, or personal, gives people meaning, hope, and a sense of control when life feels uncertain. It can provide routines, community support, or a framework for understanding challenges, which helps reduce stress and emotional strain.

I think it does.

I lost my dad unexpectedly in August on last year. I tried to get him to let me take him to the ER on the day he died and he wouldn't let me take him. After he died, I felt horrible and at fault for not pushing him to go. Of course, I would have been likely too late.

I believe there is a heaven and I believe he went there.

And believing in that comforts me knowing that maybe one day I will get to see him again.

I really miss him a lot. It's difficult to be without my dad. If I was an atheist, I feel like it would be a much worse feeling.
