Do you have to participate in sexual activity to be considered gay or straight?

And that's why I'm afraid to tell my parents I'm even bisexual.

But to the question at hand, no I don't think you need to participate in sexual activity to be considered a certain sexual orientation. You have an attraction to a certain sex (or sexes in some cases) long before there's any sexual activity going on. Just my opinion.

Well your gonna have to eventually tell them. When you feel comfortable enough to tell them do it. Don't rush into it, take your time. You can't help what you are so don't feel as if it's your fault, just be happy :):thumbup

bisexuals are so hawwwt :willy_nilly:

Nope, if you are attracted to women alone you are straight, if you are attracted to only men you are gay, and if you are attracted to both you are bisexual, whether or not you choose to act on your homosexual urges or to live a lie is irrelevant IMO.
what would the person be who is attracted to neither sex?

That's a silly question, in my opinion. If a gay woman is raped by a guy does that make her really straight? nooo. It's not what you do or don't do that determines your sexuality. IMHO you are born being attracted to whatever you are I just feel women are more open to being attracted to other woman and the majority of men find the idea of having sex with a man unappetizing to say the least.

There are many things that shape us, heredity, environment, experiences, timing of events, societal influence, your physical capabilities or lack thereof, lots of stuff.

Okay my 2 cents.

At the end of the day people are attracted to whatever floats their boat. It could be a man, woman, fat person, thin person, big fake boobs, no boobs, chest hair, no chest hair, people with blonde hair, people with no hair - the list is endless.

So the question is, if someone is attracted to the opposite sex, but never acts on those impulses, are they gay?

Another example mentioned was a priest who chooses celibacy. Should we then infer that a priest is not "heterosexual" because they have never had sexual contact with a person of opposite gender?

1. Straight or Gay is not a choice. I admit there could be some experimentation, but ultimately, you are what you are, you prefer what you prefer.

2. Straight or Gay is based on how your brain functions and what attracts you, not based on how you act. It would be more difficult to determine an individuals orientation who is celibate unless you knew that person fairly well.

No you don't have to have sex with the same gender to be considered gay/bisexual. There are many women and men out there who haven't acted sexually on their inner feelings and yet know they are gay/bisexual. Straight people know they are straight even if they aren't having sex. We all know inside who we are. Some people it takes a lifetime to act on what they prefer and others do right from the get go. It's not the physical activity that makes one gay/bisexual its the thought pattern. The physical part comes after the thought process for some which could be years later...But imo no you don't have to be sexually active to consider yourself or be considered gay/bisexual/straight.

Id love me a bald fat girl with huge fake boobs and some chest hair right about now :p

but the answer to the thread is No!!

No one is born and later in life says hmmm I think im gonna be gay. If your gay, your gay. If your straight, your straight. No one chooses to be gay or straight. I dont choose to be straight. I just am. Im attracted to females.

I was attracted to girls before i even had sex

I dont choose to be white...I just am
