I am older than a lot of people on here and I know a lot about a little and a little about a lot. I usually learn something new every day often from someone younger than me.
I try to be humble with my vast amount of knowledge and experience but sometimes the know it all in me spills out.:D

What do Y'all think?
Teach me something new.

I don't think they have the right that some of those old farts think they do. Now if they know for a fact what they just said is truth and is proving their point then by all means. But this crap "I walked 5 miles both ways up hill to school every day so I KNOW what I'm talking about" doesn't cut it lol.
 
Old people grew up at a time when people generally felt that gays should be put in prison and black people were sub human and many of them still haven't shaken off these stupid views. Quite clearly being old dosen't make you knowlegeable about everything.

That's true for some but not all of us.
Now you are generalizing about an entire group of people that you will join someday.

I try not to take an impression of anyone based on their age. I ran a guild in WoW for two years and some of my best, most reliable members were teens or young adults, and some of the most difficult and stubborn arseholes were the older guys who thought they knew everything. It really changes your opinion on whether anyone automatically deserves respect based on age.

You also get older people who are genuinely clever, have learned from their experiences and know how to give advice without making you feel stupid. My second in command for a long time was a guy who had 20 odd years on me, and he was one of the best people I met. And of course there will always be kids who act like immature idiots. You can't group everyone together and generalise, it's demeaning.


What I find very annoying is when someone older than the average brings age up in every single disagreement. You know, the ones who keep mentioning 'you young pups' and other similar phrases, when the argument has nothing to do with age. As if being older magically makes their opinion more worthwhile. There are absolutely things that I know more about than some people who've got 50+ years on me, so don't act superior just because you've managed the amazing feat of being born before me.

You did. what else were you getting at by posting this statement? I just think that far too many people still think this way and I'm sure they're not all old.

I'm not sure what in that statement led you to think that I believe only old people are guilty of racism and homophobia.:dunno
