Do I have a fair point here?

Hey everyone!

So, I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I won a competition over christmas with the Canucks (seperate to the t-shirt posted about). They did a 12 days of Canucks, where each day there was a different question and different prizes which were things like game tickets, signed jerseys or team signed hockey sticks.

Christmas day, the last one, it said that 10 people would win a "Canucks Prize Pack". I figured this one would be the biggest and best prize of the 12 as it's well.. the last one.. on christmas day, right? So anyway, I was one of the 10 that won, and had an e-mail telling me so along with a form I had to fill in and send back. After doing so the woman who contacted me told me it was all okay, and that she would mail my "gift card" in the post that day.

Because of the holidays the post was delayed by quite a few days and over the weekend I got too curious about what the "prize pack" could be, even though I was confused about the "gift card" written in the e-mail. I read about a handfull of "Canucks prize packs" that had been given out before for other competitions and they all had a pair of game tickets and some merchandise like scarfs and hats. The thought of getting something like that was pretty exciting but I didn't get carried away, especially because this "gift card" was on my mind.

The letter came yesterday morning, and it was litterally just a big envelope with only a Canucks gift card in it. After getting it I went straight downtown to the team store to see what was on it. And they told me $50.

Now, am I right in being a little bit miffed at this?

Had they said on the day of the competition, 10 people will win a $50 gift card to spend at the Canucks store, fine, right? But they didn't, the prize said it was a "Canucks Prize Pack". Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything, because I'm not. I know I'm lucky to win, and that a lot of people entered I'm sure, there just seems to be a big difference between what they said was up for grabs, and what I actually got.

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else? It's literally like the first competition of this scale I've ever won and it got me by surprise..

I can see the confusion, but I think it's a good thing. This way, you can buy $50 worth of merch that YOU want rather than what they decided to give you. I know $50 doesn't seem like much, but giving it to 10 people means $500, so I guess there's only so much they can do. Either way, congrats on the sweet swag you end up buying. :D

Well I looked around the store at what I could get for $50 and honestly it's barely anything.. we thought about getting a Canucks flag for out boat and even that was $40! Decided to either keep it for a end of season kind of sale, or I'll save it and use it with cash to get something bigger! (Maybe even help buy our first game tickets!)
