Do family discussions sometimes lead to comparisons?

Some family discussions really lead to comparisons at times. I experienced it before, and it was not a good feeling. Parents will compare their children to others. For example, the accomplishments of those children, etc. It can adversely affect the feelings of their own children, without a doubt. Do family discussions sometimes lead to comparisons?

It certainly does. My parents have 4 kids and during family gathering there is often comparison. We are adults now, so it does not affect much but when we were kids, you used to take it personally

Yes, they often do. Family discussions can easily drift into comparisons about careers, finances, relationships, or life choices. Sometimes it’s unintentional, but it can create pressure or insecurity. Clear boundaries and open communication help keep conversations supportive rather than competitive.
