Disabled La. boy, 7, decapitated by dad

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Louisiana man told investigators he decapitated his disabled 7-year-old son because he had grown tired of caring for the boy, who had cerebral palsy and heart problems, needed a feeding tube and used a wheelchair, police said.
Police Chief Scott Silverii said Monday that Jeremiah Lee Wright, 30, of Thibodaux waived his right to an attorney and confessed to killing Jori Lirette within a half-hour of being brought to the police station Sunday. Wright was booked with first-degree murder and held in lieu of $5 million bond. Detective Ricky Ross, a department spokesman, said Wright did not have an attorney.
Silverii said the boy's feet and one hand also were cut off, recovered in several white plastic garbage bags. A preliminary autopsy indicated Jori also had been bludgeoned, he said. His head was left by the side of the road so the child's mother, 27-year-old Jesslyn Lirette, would see it when she came home, the chief said.
Wright's only explanation for doing so was "just that he wanted her to feel stupid when she saw the head," Silverii said.
The killing was the first since 2008 in Thibodaux, a city of about 14,500 people.
Silverii said the boy apparently was decapitated over the kitchen sink, which was sent to the Louisiana State Police crime lab along with a box of tools found nearby. Wright told investigators he began killing the boy about 30 minutes after Lirette had left Sunday to repair her pickup truck so she could take Jori to a doctor Tuesday.
Police had been called to the house last month when the couple had an argument — possibly about money — though neither person brought charges, Ross said. The police chief said Wright had been arrested a few times previously, though he was never charged with violent crimes. Wright served 10 days for theft in 2005.

There is something seriously wrong with this dude.

Leaving the boys head by the side of the road so his mother would see it and feel "stupid"

This is just heinous, wow.
He seems incredibly demented. I can easily imagine feeling stress while caring for a child with needs like that, but this doesn't even seem like a "snap" moment, it seems premeditated. His "wanting her to feel stupid when she saw the head"...that is so nonsensical, I wouldn't be surprised if he had some developmental delays, himself.

The only positive thing from this is that he's pleading guilty, and hopefully some sort of justice will be handed down.

Such an extremely wicked crime esp by a father to a son :mad. I agree he deserves life sentence

Some information in this article really screams out indicators of serious mental illness in this man.

:homo: and this is exactly what disturbs me.

Given that he deserves a life sentence, he might be able to get away not spending that sentence in prison. With psychological testing and evaluation, court proceedings etc, he sure will be detained in a mental institution for a long time. That said, he is given so much rights and privileges in such an environment compared to prison and seems something he doesn't deserve for such a heinous crime he had committed

I'd be interested to see what they determine for him on an evaluation. Given the region, I don't know how by the book his psychiatric evaluation would be conducted/considered in court...idk. I get the feeling he may do prison instead of institution time, which is fine by me.

IDK too what Louisiana does with such cases. At this point, it might still be county level prison till his sentence or psychological evaluation. However his atty might make him plead insanity which is what I dread the route they'll take. I hope so too that he would be sent in prison and not institutionalized *crosses fingers*

True, it would sure take a lot to have that plea accepted but it's possible :s
I guess the most important thing is that he isn't able to hurt anyone else and is off the streets.

This story made my blood run cold. Luckily, his mother apparently did not see the boy's head on the side of the road because the police where already at the house.
