At 50 you have learned it is called a job because it is a chore and not a pleasure. Some days you get crapped on and as long as they don't rub it in too, you go home and shower and get ready for the next day. You know that your job provides the means to pay your bills and if you don't have a job it is hard to find one. Having bills which are your responsibility make you suck it up when you would rather blow-up.

Its also important to do something you love to do for a job...

Working for the man will always suck, no matter what though. Anytime you have to answer to someone else it is never a picnic.

It's only a chore if you don't enjoy what you do. Honestly, life is what you make it.

You're assuming that's an age thing? It's a responsibility thing and has nothing to do with age. Some people are responsible and don't quit their jobs when they get pissed because they know they have bills to pay. Some aren't and quit regardless.

Just because you're 30 years older does not make you any wiser. You may have experienced more things, but it's what you do with that experience that counts. And looking down on those younger than you and judging them simply because they're younger than you is not wisdom in my opinion.

I know when I was in my 20's with few real responsibilities it was easier to walk away from a job if I got fed up. At 50+ jobs are harder to get because employers look at you as a short term solution to their needs. The responsibilities we all have who try to have a home and a car and a few niceties. My point was not condemning youth as much as explaining why at my age I take far more crap than I ought to on a daily basis just to keep working.

I could never imagine quitting a job without a backup just because it was inconvenient or frustrating. I've seen people do that, and while I admire them for never settling in life and looking for better, I don't understand the logic.

Jesus, I'm in my twenties and I know all of that. I would quit my job in a heartbeat, but I have responsibilities and I was already made redundant once so I know full well how bad the job market is.

:thumbup:thumbup I must agree. Taking responsibility for your life is very important. Some people who are in their 40's and older act like children and some people who are only 18 or younger act like adults. :):)

I'd love to see 18 or younger people act like adults :) There certainly aren't many, unless 16 and pregnant qualifies them as "adults". Yes, I went there.

I didn't get the sense at all from Fred's original post that he was being down on younger folks.

It has been a VERY long time since I called in to work, told them that my car had broken down, and then took the day off to work on my tan.

I think it was more the thread title that made it sound like 'in your 20's you just don't get it'.

:homo:ette

My 20's were about doing whatever I felt like doing and indulging my every whim. I really didn't start taking life seriously until I got pregnant. :ninja:D:24:

I'd have thought the main difference is you dont have to worry about pissing your pants randomly when you're in your 20s. :jk
