Interesting first argument Sam. I'm looking forward to reading all the debates and arguments back and forth in this one.

I read it like "Should homicide and/or slaughtering livestock be illegal."

Kinda two different topics.

We'll see how it plays out.

EDIT: just read yours. You and me think a lot alike when it comes to debating I see. :D

Oh yay! Another topic I don't have an opinion about. :surrender

Oh man! I want Siph and HK's topic!!! I could get out the old-fashioned Mennonite in me (or just call my dad) and have a heyday with that debate!! :willy_nilly:

I love Zirc's first response, completely not what I was expecting when I read Sam's reply :p

I really need to decide where I'm going with mine.

I can only feel for some people in these debate threads. Trying to argue against a position they actually agree with or having no opinion one way or another. It's got to be hard. I certainly would not have liked some of the other topics!

That's what debate is all about :D At least it was when I was in high school... you don't necessarily get to pick your side, but you have to argue it. I suppose some people have more difficulty than others in putting aside their own personal feelings on a subject.

In the last tournament I would have loved to have heard Zirc argue the CON side to the Death Penalty from the Mennonite perspective.

That would have been very interesting to me...

That's the beauty of debate. ;) I like the idea of having to argue on a side that you don't necessarily agree with. Makes you look at an issue with fresh eyes, gives you a reason to research the issue and potentially change your stance. :)

:homo:

My initial opinion was in favor of the pro side of my debate - but since then I read a lot of articles and essays and it really opened my eyes.

Never debated officially before so this is all new but it's fun reading and see responses in the various debates. I can already see winners unless some come up with convincing arguments/debating points.

I concur entirely. I'm open minded enough to try to produce an argument for a view I don't necessarily share. It certainly does make you look at things with fresh eyes though in a good debate.
