Debate Tournament- Anybody interested in participating?

This was an idea that was a big hit on another forum that I was on.

For the first time out of the gate, I need 8 players.

Here's how it works:


  1. All 8 names are placed in a hat and pairs are randomly drawn.
  2. A coin is flipped, determining who will go first.
  3. A topic is posted. The first round will be in the realm of "Popular Culture" (music, movies, TV, etc).
  4. The person who won the coin toss will post first, stating their position and the reasons for it.
  5. The other person will then respond, stating their own position and attacking the other person's.
  6. Each player will have a total of three posts, exchanging turns, with the maximum word count of 250 per post.
  7. Quoting the other player's post in your rebuttal does not count against this 250.
  8. Posts WILL NOT BE EDITED! If a post is edited, the player is immediately disqualified.
  9. After both sides have gone 3 times OR if there is no rebuttal after 24 hours the debate will be closed.
  10. After it is closed, all posters are encouraged to vote by PM'ing me their vote AND the reason for their vote. A simple "PJ kicked ass" will not be counted. It must be along the lines of "PJ made a good point with XXXXXXX and Bob never responded to it." or something similar.
  11. After 72 hours of voting I will post the votes and the comments in the debate thread. The winner moves on to the next round.

I am a Master Debater..... So count me in. :D

..... and of course I am very nice.... so fodder I might be too.
 
Sure, why the hell not.

If maz joined up, he'd be automatically disqualified after his first rebuttal due to lack of coherent thought, excessive use of straw men, and flagrant ad hominems.

edit: crap! A 250 word limit? I'm screwed. :24:
 
Once we get two more players I'll announce the pairings and the first two pairs will get their topics.

Two more, people. Let's do it. :)


Just to make it interesting.... I'll personally put up a first place prize of 50,000 tokenz. :)

I have placed the names in a hat (literally) and the pairings are:


  • Zirc vs Hart
  • edgray vs Butterfly
  • Cam vs Retro
  • Red vs HK

So... this is the order that the debates will run and the first name listed starts their debate.

Zirc and Hart's question will be up shortly.
