The other thing is, and this is something I have never ever understood. People calling him overrated. He isn't and never has been, fact is that between about 99 and 2001 he was the best Right Winger on the planet, nobody could touch him. The other argument people like to use is he never went past people, which is what a winger should do. Well he did go past people, he just didn't do it often. The reason why was because he didn't have to. Because he was able to hit a cross from deep which caused confusion in the defence of whatever opposition and often led to a header on goal from whoever the centre forward was at the time. And even Paul Scholes. His cross to goal ratio must have been high, put it that way. Even in 2002 when he broke his foot the whole nation was praying for him to get better, change of tune from 4 years earlier when everybody wanted him hung, because even the most blinkered Beckham hater had to admit he was the best winger on the planet.
