I am really impressed with your macro shots. Stellar sharpness and DOF

I'd been attempting at macro lately with not much luck using my 28-135 mm lens and 18-55 mm macro lens. I'm not getting enough DOF at times and when i go near e.g. a flower ~ the sharpness, dissipates :(

Will a prime lens (am assuming the 60mm you're using is a prime lens) helps?

How different is that from a 35mm f/1.4L and 50 mm f/1.4 prime lenses when it comes to being an all around/portrait and macro lens?

Thanks in advance

with a macro lens you will lose DOF as you get closer, the trick is to focus on the right part or stand the camera on a tripod for max sharpness and move back a little allowing a crop....a rule of thumb is if you're taking a picture of an insect try to focus on the eyes,or with a flower the center...i do have a prime lens but i cant see that it makes any difference what size except in the focusing distance, beware though if taking a portrait with a macro lens...it will pick every wrinkle and stray hair up

your lenses

is the 18-55 the kit lens?

and is the 28-135mm this one

if so i'm not sure that its a dedicated macro lens....but,you can get some awesome results with it

Yes the 18-55 mm lens came as part of the camera kit. And yup, w/ the link u posted, that's my 28-135mm lens. The 18-55 is the one that says on the lens itself as a 'macro' lens. But you're right am able to get better shots with the 28-135 mm lens.

I wondered about my distancing away from the flower/insect hence i practiced shots away and very near, but am not so satisfied with results :(
I shall practice more and heed your advice. Thanks mucho !! :thumbup

....that Ken Rockwell guy, sure takes very great shots.

L0L....i am stuck with this lens till i save up for a better lens. I am aiming for the 35 mm lens :p

So, maybe ;)
