There are some discussions to make travel a little bit easier for travel between our two countries... like the NEXUS Card

That system is already in place but from what I know about it it's good only for vehicular and foot traffic and those that cross the border frequently. eg: people that live on one side and work on the other. My doctor is an American living in the US. He crosses both ways daily in order to go to and return from work. With the NEXIS system he drives in a special lane, flashes his card at some reader and blows on through. No waiting involved like you and I would have to do. Matter of fact I did again it last Saturday and it took me the better part of an hour which is actually quite fast. It can take hours on a weekend if you go at the wrong time. Anywhoo.... because your country is so obsessed with national security and bad guys coming from Canada it will never get easier for us to cross the border. That's cost your country enough money to power up another war. On the flipside Canada is slowly beefing up it's system to mirror yours so don't expect anything to lighten up there in the near future either.

Oh joy.. I guess I won't be going state side then.. just not worth it.. But then again from what my MIL said we are going to need one to fly in our own country in the not too distant future.. (she works security at YYC)

I kinda doubt that we'll ever need a passport to fly within our own borders. Canadians wouldn't stand for such stupidity..... would we?

We have been putting up with lots of crap to make US happy.. I can see it being part of that... :S

I agree... we only do it to keep them happy but until the Yanks need a passport to fly within their own borders we won't need one here either.

My mom has one of those new licenses they look are her funny going through security in TO's airport.. so not all the country is on the same page..

for me to update my english passport it costs over 200 yanky dollars as the english embassy in canada no longer does it...go figure out that one. used to be able to get my passport updated in ottawa for just over a 100 canadian dollars.....now mind you my english passport last longer than the canadian one. I get ten years out of it where as my husband and son only get 5 years out of their canadian passport we spent just over 90 dollars each getting....so i still get the better deal.
