I just got in a good one tonight. I was sitting at my local watering hole having a few beers with my cowboy buddies and this young stupid kid who is bigger than I am comes up and says "I hate Cowboys". Mind you there are 5 cowboys sitting at the table. I imagine he picked me being the smallest. Anyway, he takes my hat off my head. I then said to him "Son you just fucked up". He then says " How's that?" I then said " You don't ever take a cowboys hat off his head". He got a little cocky and so I had to throw a little whooop ass on him. He then looks at his friends and they say "you are on your own, we aren't going to help you." So it ends up in the parking lot and now he is begging me to let him up. I then tell him " I hope you have learned to never touch a cowboy's hat again. He then says "I didn't think you were that tough". Then he goes in and buys me a beer. All the while my wife is mad as she knows the cowboy way. Don't ever touch a cowboy's hat, but she is mad that I stand up to my belief on a stupid kid. Doesn't matter what you are or what your age Do Not touch a cowboy's hat.
 
You are talking about a Chris Ledoux song. The cowboy hat. That is the cowboy way James. You can call a cowboy what ever, but as soon as you touch his hat it is on. I stand by that 100%.
 
James, I believe that a man should respect another man. If he were to sit there and rant about cowboys and such it would of been fine, but as any cowboy would tell you if you touch a cowboys hat be it fun for you or whatever you are going to get asked once and that would be to not touch a hat. If you don't listen you are going to get hurt.

In general terms, walking solo to a table with 5 of just about any type of person, announcing you hate them, and then taking something of value from one... If you had been a biker, he would not have survived the throw out the door.

Good on ya for letting him off easy! hahaha!!

People should always respect others' belongings, regardless.

This is purely for curiosity though Mike - what is the meaning behind that, that no-one takes a cowboy's hat? I haven't heard that before - we don't get cowboys here in England. Would be interesting to know what it is about the hat. :) ;)
 
I could only listen to a bit of the song, as can't listen to country music, so, still need to find out, why it is, that a person cannot touch a cowboy's hat/stetsen? :) Cooooooooos, I :dunno why. ;)

It's a very personal thing. Typically, a real cowboy has a story behind their hat. Passed down through the family and stuff. They don't just go buy their hats at Western World.

But I tell ya what, regardless of what type of hat it is, someone comes up and takes my hat off my head, he's gonna get hurt. That's just disrespectful.

Oh ok, I see now.

Obviously over here, you don't just take something from someone, but I can't think of any similarity between a cowboy hat over there and anything we wear here off the top of my head.

Interesting, think I will do a thread on this riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight now, could be interesting and will get to know a bit of other countries too.

Hummmmm, yep, off I go to do it now. :) ;)
