RE: Contreversy over Pink Floyd

I really have nothing against Metallica. It's just that in reality, they're not very good musicians at all. I used to love the band myself, but ever since the new album was released - they've pretty much died permanently.

Lars is the only guy who's really that mediocre. His drums are basic beats and timing. He never has done very many drum solos, and the ones he has done are simply mediocre.

However, James can sing and Kirk can play the guitar.

Actually, James suffers from what most singers tend to do all the time. He hides it very well, but he can never really alternate between his notes. He can only go up and down one note at a time and he can't really reach high ones at all. Kirk... well he's only able to play on one guitar pedal and he plays the same shit over and over again. His solos are all the same.

Well that's because Metallica stays within the same three notes on all of their songs. So the fact that James doesn't go that high is based off the chords they play. Same thing with Kirk's guitar playing.

This applies to pretty much any band. They stick with the same sound through out their career.

I gotta disagree here man. Listen to "One". Towards the end is way more than basic drumming. It's absolutely sick, and the whole song is incredible.

Let's just say that if you'd like to hear "sick drumming", do not listen to Metallica. Ok? And let's just leave it at that. Thanks.

You're right, what the hell was I thinking? I forgot I need to consult you before forming my own personal opinion. Fuck Metallica, bunch of pussies. I can't believe I never realized it before. Thanks a lot man. You're a fine American. I still can't believe I almost liked Metallica, thanks for opening my eyes. I was just listening to "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", but I'll turn it off right now. I'll make sure and run my opinions by you in the future. Thanks again for your help.

For the record, yes I do enjoy Pink Floyd, I have to be in a certain mood though. I thought the remake Korn did of "Another Brick in the Wall" was pretty frickin awesome too. Go ahead Legoman, give me shit for liking Korn too.

Great, here we go again... look pal, I don't want any more of this flagging me as everyone's gravest enemy on the forum, but Lars definitely is not the greatest drummer in the world. In fact, he's really nowhere even close to being the greatest drummer in the world. Now that does not immediately mean that you should stop listening to the band itself, because when the band is complete, with the other more musically capable members - it is a whole different story. As a whole, Metallica is a great band. Once the band members are analyzed individually, you tend to figure stuff out. My point was about Lars, the not-so-good drummer, not the entire band and definitely not other bands I never even mentioned.

Perhaps I should suggest a couple of bands where the drummer is a vital part of the music and is very well close to being the greatest drummer in the world? It would only make me feel better. But I'd only do it if requested.

Sweet, another Maddox appreciator. I bought his book. It was supposed to come somewhere in June, but it's already been shipped for some reason. I can't wait to read it.

Man, we totally hijacked this thread. Back to how much Pink Floyd rocks:

So... what's your favorite Pink Floyd song? Mine's Dark Side of the Moon.

The thing is, in order to be a good rock musician you need to be drunk or on drugs, and thats pretty much it. Take Mettalica for example, once the lead singer soberd up..booo they suck, but the catch is if you are a musician who uses drugs you will be likley to die soon but your music will live on forever, for example..kurt cobain, jimi hendrix, jim morrison ect.
