Congenital Heart Disease

My younger sister was born with this disease. She was also born with 1 lung. She has had 2 open heart surgeries so far (before she was 5 yrs old). She was not supposed to live to be 25. She is now 31 yrs old. She was not supposed to have children. She has a 2 yr old healthy baby girl.


She has to have a valve transplant in 2 weeks. You can tell by looking at the sonar how much her heart has grown in the past 6 months.



I guess why I am telling you all this is so you can pray for her. The doc say this could add about 15 yrs to her life.

April 7 the docs are gonna "stretch" the stint. April 19 is the valve replacement. (Pig Valve)

Well, more luck to her it must be a bit nerve-wracking having to wait longer but hopefully it'll be worth it!

I have been at the hospital since 4 a.m.

The great doctors at UAB have went in and extended the stent. They thought they might have to put in another but didnt. They also took measurements and pictures to get ready for the valve transplant on the 19th. All in all was a good day for my sister. She is on her way home now and will be back at work Monday morning.

Lets just pray the valve replacement surgery goes this well.

Is it an aortic valve?

They have been advertising here about replacing those valves via catheter rather than to cut open the chest.

Do they use that technology where your sister is at?

My Nuerologist said I was going to either have a learning disability or I would be in a vegetative all my life. I hasve beat the odds 10 fold. I'm really not so surprised your sister is still kicking as a man born with a life long disability I praie her for having that will power!

The docs say it may be noon or so before they actually take her back. The surgery is supposed to last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. I will have my phone with me and for the ones that care to check in on her I will make a couple post to let you all know how things are going.
