Mona Lisa, the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting, has mystified onlookers for centuries with her smile. Finally, after research made using a computer program developed by Nicu Sebe at the University of Amsterdam and researchers at the University of Illinois, we now know what was behind that mysterious smile.

The British weekly publication "New Scientist" reported that Mona Lisa was 83 percent happy, 9 percent disgusted, 6 percent fearful, and 2 percent angry. Unfortunately though, we may never know why she felt that way.

The painting shows a woman looking out at the viewer with what is often described as an "enigmatic smile".
