Sure it does. There are different kinds of monarchism with their own checks and balances.
Um, you specified one particular kind of monarchism (aristocratic monarchism), first off. Second, Mon comes from Mono meaning One. Arch mean rule. One person in charge. Aristocratic indicates rule passed down by heredity. There are no checks and balances when you are born with the power. If you are thinking of holding up the UK as an example, remember that the Mon lost her Archy a long time ago. They continue to use the term only out of nostalgia.
I'd be okay with monarchism. Sometimes I think things would be a lot simpler if there was just one guy in charge. You might get the odd bad apple but on the other hand, no one lives forever. That's what peasant uprisings are for 
I suppose you take your chances. I'd rather have one dick in charge than a whole cabinet of them.
When there's more than one, at least there's a chance of disagreement. In an absolute monarchy, it's always a unanimous decision no matter how stupid.
Better start off with a King of decent intelligence then and hope his kids take after him
When I say "aristocratic monarchy" I mean one king and there also being aristocrats that help with governance. The two have existed together.

Yeah, last time that happened in Britain was in the 16th century, lets see, people being burned for being catholic followed by people being burned for being protestant followed by...oh yeah...people being burnt for being catholic again. Sounds great! Sign me up! :sarcasm
