I am making potholder's for a friend, and need some help. I used colors other than what the pattern recommended, and am not sure what my fifth should be.

This is what another sample looks like:

I did mine with these colors:

The majority of the edge is in the lighter blue. I have two identical ones to stitch together, and am not sure if I should go with a color I've already used, or with a fifth color, like the pattern.

I have ALL sorts of colors available, so give me some ideas.

Your best bet is to put all your yarns together in groups and see what looks better.. All computer monitors have different colors, and what looks good in mine, won't look good in another..

To my trained eye, your last yarn would be compatible with the dark orange and pink of the potholder, since they seem to fall into the blue spectrum to me, according to the colors on my monitor..
The dark ball of yarn, seems to be compatible with that last beige yarn, so it might be okay too..

Red, blue and yellow are the principal colors, and from there you can get all the others.. depending on the combination of those colors..

Some colors are more blue than green.. like your yarn at the end of the line..

The ball of blue yarn under the potholder, has more blue than the piece of blue crochet near the end, which is going more towards the green spectrum...

That blue ball of yarn clashes with the potholder, because it is not within the same spectrum..

The piece of blue crochet seems to be closer to the spectrum of the light orange and the yellow..

If you don't have a color wheel.. take a quick run to any store that sells paint, and grab a whole bunch of those little cardboard with graduated paint samples in all colors.. Each one is done following the same spectrum..
While you are there, stand up in front of the display and try to see the differences I'm talking about..
Hope this helps.. :)
