Why is it that you have to laugh? I was excited at the beginning of the season; but the BCS is so fucking corrupt that I can't bring myself to watch any of the games associated with it. TCU got fucked, Boise got fucked far worse than TCU did, OSU got fucked worse than the two of them combined.

I laugh because you're part of your own problem.

You get excited at the beginning of the season, but for some unknown reason you don't realize at that time (beginning of the season) that someone is going to get screwed at the end of the season? News flash. The programs you're excited about are a part OF the problem.

Hey, I'll watch a college game like anyone else, but in the end, does it do anything for my paycheck or make my family any happier? **** no.

You're completely oblivious to the point that I'm making here. Yes, I'm excited at the beginning of the season... just like I am before baseball, hockey, and the NFL seasons. I haven't expected Fresno State to be competing for a BCS berth since 2005... we were horrible this year, yet I still went to 6 games this season. I'm going to watch plenty of other bowl games, but I'm going to boycott watching the BCS games... I quite simply don't have any interest in them. The teams that I'm excited about aren't part of the problem, they're on the outside looking in. This is why college football needs to go to a playoff system rather than the BCS... because the BCS is a cartel controlled by ESPN, who is obsessed with the SEC. Which, all really comes down to money... because college football has become every bit as much of as business as the NFL is.

I fail to see how my being excited at the beginning of the year means that I'm part of the corruption in the existing system. The only team that I'm excited about is my own. Sure, I like to see the non-AQs do well, and it's ridiculous that teams like Boise are continually fucked over despite being the most successful program in the country in the last decade. It's ridiculous that the SEC is treated like it's the NFL-lite and that the teams there are so much better than the rest of the country. Those are the problems. Am I a part of them? Fuck no.

The "cartel" isn't controlled by ESPN, the "cartel" is controlled by the NCAA.

I've got to ask, did you graduate from Fresno state?

You obviously know absolutely nothing about the BCS and how it works. The BCS isn't technically an entity, it is an event of sorts that is controlled by FBS conferences, with the "Big 6" being the only conferences whose champions automatically qualify (hence the term AQ and non-AQ) for a berth in one of the four bowls simply by virtue of being champion of their conference. ESPN owns the broadcasting rights to all of the BCS bowls, including the Mythical National Championship game. The reason that I state that the cartel of controlled by ESPN is because ESPN drives the BCS because of television ratings, it is in their best interest to push for the matchups that they believe will get the best ratings, rather than the teams that are the most deserving. College football has become a business, driven by money, and that money wagon is largely owned by ESPN. There is some pretty strong documentation that ESPN was the entity that was pushing for the ACC to raid the Big Least earlier this year, and there have been similar accusations and allegations over the years.

But, back to the BCS... it is not directly controlled by the NCAA, the NCAA has regulatory control over the conferences and dictates what teams can be bowl eligible. Past that, the BCS is controlled by the group of conferences, with the Big 6 and Notre Dame controlling the direction of it for the most part. Individual bowls are also not directly controlled by the NCAA except by saying which teams are eligible. The bowl games have individual contracts both with the network that is broadcasting the game and with the individual conferences whose teams play in the game.

As far as my status with Fresno State goes. No, I am not a graduate yet. I have taken adjunct classes at my local community college, and my goal is to get my degree from there when I'm back to that point. However, I've lived in the valley since I was 9 years old, and have been a Fresno State fan for as long as I've been a fan of college football (the 1992 Freedom Bowl where Fresno State defeated USC). However, whether or not I'm a graduate of the school is completely irrelevant. I have been a financial contributor to the university, and am currently a member of the Football Booster club.

OSU vs LSU would have been a good game. I can't help but to be glad my team is in the title game (as anyone would) but I fully understand why the rest of the world is sick of the SEC. In my opinion OSU and Bama were clamoring to see who would get to lose to LSU in their backyard. I don't see anyone beating them this year.

Perhaps. I could just never understand the "connection" to a college football program if you've never graduated from the school. Don't get me wrong, I can see how people would like to watch some programs, but dang, you've got fanatics out there that follow schools and give up so much of their time to do it. I can't help but think it fills some kind of void, but then again, perhaps no more than myself wasting my time here LOL

I do know that the BCS isn't an entity, but the fact is you follow the money, and it leads to the NCAA, which is nothing but a bunch of money grabbing hypocrites.

I think next year is when Michigan plays Bama at a neutral field

There needs to be more of that during the regular season

Retro at playoff time though the Big 10 always gets smoked. I think the SEC top to bottom does have the best conference. As to the top 2 teams most of the time probably not but as a collective if they played only against the PAC the lower ranked SEC would clean up on the PAC in my opinion

The BSC is bullshit and all about tv

Tis a shame because you could throw in the top 10 teams or so in a playoff and it would be really interesting. I would not necessarily say it would crown a national champion though because on any given day a team has a chance to beat the other. Not as a rule in a big game but look at the basketball playoffs in the NCAA.

I've got to ask, where did you do your undergrad work and why don't you follow them?

I graduated from Valdosta State University. I support the Blazers, but I'm not diligent in following them (I keep telling myself that I'm going to start trying to keep up w/ them). I was raised in a household w/ an avid UGA fan (interestingly enough, my mom...my dad has no interest in football) and sort of became a fan by proxy. Until about 3 years ago I merely enjoyed the game and didn't have a clue besides touchdown = good, fumble = bad. I've come a long way, LMFAO

Fresno State is the only game in town around here.... it goes beyond the students and alumni. It's like that in the south too, to an even bigger degree. When I lived in Texas, the Judson High School football team in Converse (just outside of San Antonio) always had a full stadium, which seated over 12k people. Damn nearly half the surrounding population shows up to watch them play.

Also, stop trying to psychoanalyze people based on their like of a college football team... it's rather pathetic.

The fact is that the money trail doesn't lead back to the NCAA directly, but to the TV networks, conferences, and schools. Again, it's pretyt obvious that you don't have much of an understanding of how it works.

oh but the money does follow to the NCAA

The schools get quite a bit of money to get in a bowl

And it just gets bigger every year

The money in college football and basketball drives the engine that support the rest of the college sports.

Which is why there is so much corruption

When was the last truly clean team that one the national football championship?

It is all about the money

I would have to respectfully disagree

Except for I am a prick :D

OK St would get their clocks cleaned IMO

LSU and Bama are the best teams money can buy

im gonna throw my opinion in here...

UH had a huge upset when we lost to southern miss. we had a perfect season going into that game. i think some of the players gave up on the head coach as rumors were he is leaving to join Texas AM at the end of the season. very disappointing to us as well as the BCS since they lost like 17 million.......

Bama and Michigan do in fact meet in Dallas to start the 2012 season.

I don't subscribe to the idea that you have to go to a school to be a fan of that school. I was a Bama fan long before I was enrolled there. School or not its a sports team that you are a fan of. To me its no different than pulling for an NFL team you never played for.

I was just disagreeing on OSU being a good game against LSU

I am a huge Michigan fan and never went there although my dad graduated there.

So I agree with your point about the not having to attend to be a fan

Around here I would be called a Walmart Wolverine

Yeah AU folks pretend their entire fan base graduated from AU while 99% of Bama fans are Wal-Marters so I can relate.

I think OSU could score a few on LSU early in the game, but by halftime they would be shut down.

I used to look forward to the bowl games when there were only half a dozen at most

yes I am that old :p

Now unless the team I care about is in a bowl I don't give a shit except for the national title game and maybe the Rose Bowl

The morons in charge are all about the money. The more bowl games the merrier for them

Like the NBA and NHL with too many teams the bowl games are too many as to be diluted that it now is worthless IMO

You're exactly right, the only problem is that the majority of student athletes who participate in "huge sporting events" are the ones being abused. Yes, there are a select few who will make their millions upon millions of dollars in the pro league, but they are the minority, not the majority. The school who these athletes play for do get a great ride for their tuition, but what does the university get in return for those players participating in college football? The NCAA seems to have such high standards as long as it doesn't affect their pocket book.

I just find the irony in it all so funny at times with people who do the bitching are the ones funding the programs. I use to participate in a "club sport" at a large university, boxing. Other than getting a free ride to the downtown athletic club in NYC each year, everything was paid for out of our own pockets. The only time it seemed that the matches would be filled with spectators was when we were boxing at a military academy when the cadets would show up. Honestly, it really didn't bother me because EVERYONE who participated did so because they LOVED the sport. The reality was we didn't make the university any money, so they (the university) and the NCAA really didn't care about our "sport" because it didn't make them money.

Take Penn State, Ohio State and North Carolina for example when it comes to college football and what can be gotten away with the university when it comes to football. Heck, you can even go back to SMU. Don't' get me wrong, I know their are a bunch of guys who play because they love the game of football, but the fact is big colleges (such as those in the BCS standings) are BIG business and run as such, and guess who the customers are? YOU.

Like I had mentioned, Wake Forest (local university) was so PROUD to get into a bowl at 6-6:24:

How long do bowl games run now? Two weeks???

If the school has the alumni that can spend the money (like you said) a bowl game means MONEY!

Heck, is their a toilet bowl out yet?
