could it be possible?......i mean in the western countries like britain, america or australia etc,i'm not on about striking but nationwide anarchy caused by the present financial situation and spiraling costs....lets face it,britain has just had a tax hike on V.A.T. of 2.5%,add this to what the retailers will add in hidden price rises, fuel is at an all time high pushing delivery costs up which in turn pushes prices up.....the working man hasn't really got a chance because most governments are led by the silver spoon brigade who have never known financial hardship

that and the knowledge that the police and military are going to win big if things get taken to the streets.

if it happened in britain with the police just having huge cuts and whats left of our armed forces overseas the public would win

how so, most are not armed

most of our police aren't either, and they're now at breaking point because of the cuts...and our armed forces have been cut so badly if argentina invaded the falklands again we'd never get them back....the armed forces are mostly in the middle east now..........we have a population of over 70 million, and very few police

you forgot about NATO and the UN.

in armed insurrection, the public loses every time. if the revolution doesn't get squashed, it empowers new leaders that are worse than the old ones.

Why didn't the citizens of the US revolt during the great depression? Why aren't the millions of millions of Indians without clean water, not attacking their government?

Anything is possible, not that I am inciting riots, but I am continuing getting fed up with the price rises being hiked on items. You made a valid point that despite VAT not being added to food, it will inevitably be hiked to deal with the rise in fuel costs.

Duty on fuel is just ridiculously too high, to top it up we have to pay VAT

for the same reason it would have never happened here at the time, people with money were classed as better than people without so had to be shown respect.....times and attitudes are different now

I don't think the Americans were taxed to the hilt when the Great Depression happened

Civil on rest is easily controlled and dispelled due to the fact that citizens are only concerned for themselves and not the whole. Lets take the United States for example, we hate everything the government is doing right? Then why aren't all the citizens banded together and making a change? Why aren't half the people even voting? I think it is very unlikely that if we can't even get someone to vote that we will see them revolting against anything.

hopefully the masses will start exercising their democratic powers before it gets to this point.

I do think that generally people are far too demoralised to stand up and really start to air their frustrations.

And not to mention the govt and mainstream media have been so clever at placing the blame onto certain elements in society, some believe it's the immigrants, others the benefit scroungers etc etc. Not to mention the fact that thanks to the major cut backs Thatcher made in the 80s to education, we've generally got a thoroughly stupid and politically ignorant population that care only about themselves and do not understand that the system itself is faulty.

I do not believe there will be civil unrest. Just more people gladly walking into poverty and lower standards of living because they've been brainwashed into believing that this is the only way society can function.

Yay capitalism, corporatism, cronyism, elitism, hierarchy, the monetary system and all of the contributing factors that are making life so incredibly shit for so many people.

Hopefully the masses will realise the current government is trying to sort out the mess the last lot caused and the tax is neccessary if we want to pull out of the slump

I think that's a big reason yeah. Labour really fucked up the Country to the point that most of this is necessary. If people want to blame the current government for all the problems when really it was the previous one then they are kinda stupid.

The vast majority of people still have stuff. As long as they have stuff, they have something to lose. People generally don't revolt en masse until they have nothing to lose.
