Female circumsicion isn't even the same thing as male .. it's not done for the same reasons at all.

Male circumcision has a proven benefit, and can even relieve some conditions .. female cirscumcision doesn't have any benefits.

Well, being circumsized and having my son circumsized...I think the trauma of having it done is minimal and the benifits outway the risks. I think most people have hit it fight on the head saying that it reduces infections of both the male and female partners when the child become sexually active. As far as "ripping your foreskin", I've never heard of that, but that could have had several other reasons behind that...loss of lubrication, a skin disorder, some other genetic disease.

The bleeding post-circumcision is minimal. My son had this little bandage on the tip of his penis for maybe a week or so, all you have to do is get some medical petroleum jelly and apply it to the bandage evertime you change his diaper. This keeps the bandage from sticking to the diaper. My brother-in-law made the mistake of forgetting one time and he almost pulled the bandage off my nephew's penis. Needless to say my nephew took exception to that and continued to scream for about an hour...

That's totally worse case scenerio.

male circumcision is very rare in infant males in the Uk,this procedure is only deemed necessary if due to medical treatment needs.

a boy would be under pressure from peers at school for being very different here.men born after the early sixties are amost all uncircumcised.

my view is if its not broken then dont fix it.

do not get me onto female circumcision ,it gets me very angry,as i view it as mutilation and a human rights issue

But Deb, didn't your national healthcare come into effect about that same time? I mean in the 60's? don't you think that had something to do with, cutting medical costs and all? After all, I know that circumcision in the states tends to run in the thousands of dollars at times depending on the hospital and the insurance company. Some Insurance companies look at circumcision as a cosmetic task, therefore don't cover it, or only cover a portion of it. One of my old Navy buddies had his son after he got out of the Navy and the hospital, Sentara Norfolk General, charged him almost $1000 because the insurance only covered a portion of the circumcision...

Eh, no worries. Still, we know that when things are government run, they tend to cut corners when and where they seem fit. I mean, there's a reason why so many Canadians come running to the US when they're seriously sick...they know they'll get seen faster and probably healed before they can even get into see their assigning doctor up in Canada-land.

This is so true what Deb said^^^^and I have never thought about having my son circumcised. I see where you are coming from re the cleanliness etc, but for us here, it is more unusual than usual to think about circumcising boys. Medical reasons are the only reason or those of a certain religion that stipulates this has to be done.

We don't really have a great choice - could go private for those with money, but no, NHS doesn't include that in the package. ;)
