SCOTTSDALE - A mother faces child endangerment charges after a valet called police to report she left her 2-year-old son alone in her BMW while she shopped at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

Gardenia Zakrzewski-Johansson was arrested in the mall parking lot outside Neiman Marcus after valets watched her walk into the store with a small dog under her arm, directing them to watch her car with the child inside.

"I'll be quick, don't tell anybody," Zakrzewski told one of the valets before going into the store for nearly 30 minutes, according to the police report.

The 39-year-old woman faces a Class 1 misdemeanor charge for the Monday afternoon incident, Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said.

"We don't think it's ever appropriate to leave your child alone in the car for five minutes, let alone 25 minutes," Clark said.

Zakrzewski-Johansson was allegedly uncooperative with officers who handcuffed her at the scene. She "kept stating that she did nothing wrong and that the valets were supposed to be watching her child" while she went inside Neiman-Marcus to pick up a Christmas gift, the report said.

What an uncaring bitch. With the amount of peodophiles and weirdos around these days I'd have trouble leaving a kid of that age on its own at all. It's sadly too common though. I was in the pub yesterday and was appalled by the behaviour of this "mother"
This pub is in the middle of the town centre with the main bus station right outside. It also can get a bit rough in there at times too. But there she was, getting pissed, smoking around the kid and chatting away to her mates while ignoring the kid who was wandering about inside and outside the pub. He couldn't have been any older than 4 or 5 too! It really pisses me of when I see that. There are plenty of people who would make great parents but have problems having kids while wankers like that seem to be able to pop them out like there's no tomorow!:mad

it sucks and its not right, but she screwed up, and she will face the consequences. Doesn't mean she doesn't care about her child, it means she made a mistake...
Are you guys saying my mom didn't care about me or that she is an idiot also for leaving her 4 children in the car when I was younger? I hope not, because far more people did that than you would think.

Back then it wasnt a big deal at all like it is now. My grandma would leave me and my 2 cousins in the car when she ran in the store to grab something real quick. You didnt have all the crap thats going on now back then. You never heard of a child being kidnapped.
But now, its just idiotic for someone to leave a child unattended. Now, you hear of children being kidnapped quite frequently.

I kind of take it personally when parents leave their kids unattended in cars. When I was a kid, maybe three or four at the most, my mom left all three of us in the car while she went in to some store or something. We had just come from the grocery store and I managed to get into a bottle of children's aspirin which I thought was candy (yes, this was before childproof caps were invented... shut up) and had to be taken to the emergency room to have my stomach pumped. It would never have happened if my mom hadn't left us unattended.
No, I don't think my mom was stupid for doing it. It was just careless. I mean, what if I had gotten into something more potent than children's aspirin? Know what I mean?
