I'm generally more distracted when I see someone else texting or holding a phone to their ear. I'm so busy watching them that I end up driving wacky too. :D

Yea, same here. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a woman driving and reading her kindle at the same time.

Best was the woman who was arrested after crashing into a pole because she was shaving her vagina on the way to her bf's house. She was not an attractive woman, to clarify. :s

Quite frankly there are people who should not drive at all forget about even talking on a Cell Phone at the same time..

I have no objection to no texting because you should be giving attention to what you do and in fact endorse this type of law..

But talking in a bluetooth hook up in car is a bit extreme when people still have CB Radios in motorhomes, trucks and many other types of vehicles.

How many sing to songs while driving.. That's distracting to many.. Just has never been "statistically" checked yet.. Or how many have been in accidents while arguing with their kids who are in the back seat..

The fact is a vehicle will and always has been a place where someone has to pay 100% attention to what they do..

Removing the Cell Phone access from cars will not stop accidents from happening because they happened before Cell Phones and will continue..

Of course if you concentrated on a survey of people who were talking on Cell Phones you may come up with a higher incident of people who got into car accidents, just as you would those who were drinking Starbucks Coffee, Arguing with Kids or putting of lipstick at 70 mph of the highway while holding the steering wheel with one knee and drinking eating McDonalds in the other hand ( don't ask I have no idea how she managed :eek)..

No need for me to write a lengthy post..as you pretty much have written what I would have.

Its not the phone thats dangerous..its the person using it.

People don't follow the rules of the road without using a cellphone. Give them a cellphone while driving its even worse. Pay attention to your surroundings. If you need to talk on the cellphone theres that little function... it's called SPEAKER PHONE.

I have used a cellphone while driving a few times (usually getting directions) and I know my driving has suffered. I have never texted when driving though, that seems really stupid. I do drive a lot with one hand though, and I don't think I drive worse with one hand than two. After all I have a stick shift and one does have to have one hand on the wheel much of the time anyway when in stop and go traffic.

ive never driven with both hands. i cant. its weird. i only drive with the left hand. i CANNOT handle my car with my right hand AT ALL, and im right handed! LoL

its no different than changing the station, or talking to someone else in the car (more times than not, my 6 yr old) and the whole "someone else is in the car being aware of whats going on to help you drive" no, i can guarantee my 6 yr old isnt, and i know when/if im a passenger in someones car, im not looking out for driving. IM not driving so why should i pay attention? im staring aimlessly out my window, or playing on my phone! LOL

The next thing you know, they'll ban car radios.

OK, that'll never happen since most of us would go crazy driving a car without any music or talk shows to listen too, especially on long trips.

They are just kinda grandfathered in...in they were a new device I wouldnt be so sure about their approval.

The problem lies in people not having enough attention to the task of driving at hand.
We could text for instance if the speed limit was 1 mph.
I wouldnt want to be talking on a phone or playing with the radio..while on the track at 170 mph as all of my attention is needed for driving in such an instance.
But going down the road at speed limit driving with one hand and talking is no issue for me.
We need to know our boundaries...people should accept the fact that texting and driving is dangerous.
We were driving with these cellphones before texting became popular...wasnt an issue.
Some of the touch screen phones also require more steps and attention to make a simple call..thus making them not as road friendly as they once were

You know that WILL never happen for the following reasons..

- No political advertising while you drive.. How can they mentally abuse you til you vote their way.
- Insurance companies would be able to tell you how bad a driver you are while you drive, then have the nerve to ask you to change to them.. :tooth

For every person that has knowledge of their surrounding there are 10 people who can't multitask to save their life. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I have honestly lost count on the number of times i have guessed some idiot driving the road is on their cellphone simply by looking at the way they are driving.

get a hands free device, use speakerphone but keep both fucking hands on the wheel and both eyes on the fucking road or face the possibility of getting a ticket... Pretty simple and well justified in my book.

If it isn't a law in every state, it should be

It's rare for me to have two hands on the wheel. I have spent WAY too many hours in a semi with my hand on the gear shift. If my right hand touches the steering wheel it's because I am rolling my window down or something.

sometimes if the road is nice and clear with two lanes and wide shoulders and no shoulder drops I will steer with just my knee under the wheel

I dont have long enough legs to do that. I drive with my right hand on the wheel, left hand for gear changes. Dont use my phone when driving.
