Cell phones and children.

I don't believe that children should have mobile phones, it isn't for any moral reason, just jealously, I didn't have a phone when I was a child, I had a walkie talkie - and rubbish ones at that, the ones where you had to stand NEXT to each other to communicate. :D

For those with children at what age did you get them a cell phone or at what age do you plan to get them one?

I plan to give them a reasonable price on when they have reached middle school. But it's only for the purpose of emergency. I don't want to encourage them to be materialistic and such.

I have 4 children.
We got a daughter a phone when she was 14... texting only. Last Chirstmas she got an iphone, she was almost 16.
Got our son an iphone when he was almost 14.
Our 12 year old does not have one at all, and we do not believe he is mature enough for one.
Our 5 year old wants one too :)
