Well all my cats are outdoor cats.. and always have been.. umm Well Except for my newest cat Joey.. He wants to be an outside cat.. but he got to get some brains first..

he has went outside only once since I brought him home.. and he came back very sore and very torn up... found out the hard way that not all dogs are as nice as my dogs... he still lays and stares at the door all day.. but he dont try to go out anymore..lol

But Funny story about cats bringing in "gifts" My hercules used to bring me Garter snakes.. which wasnt so bad.. except he never killed them.. he just brought them in...

I used to have a cat majik that loved baby Rabbits.. And I litrally mean Loved.. He would carry them by the nape of their neck up to the house and then spend all day just watching them play and bounce around.. in all that time he never killed one.. Odd for a Tom.

It pretty much depends on the cat.

You take a kitten and keep it inside it's whole life .. and most times (not all) it wont want to go outside. They don't like the way grass/dirt feel. Their pads are accustomed to carpet. Coupled with all the noises and smells .. it freaks most of them out. Sensory overload. They can get used to it though, just takes time.

You take a kitten and keep it outside it's whole life .. and most times (not all) it won't want to be inside. The carpet feels odd .. doesn't have any smell, The other flooring (hardwood, linoleum, ect) feel alien to them and usually scares them (nothing to grip). The noises from the tv scare them. And the way the inside of a house smells confuses them (all the amonia based products and such). Sensory overload again. They can, however, usually get used to it.

In both cases neither may ever be truly happy in their changed environment though. But they can learn to cope and survive.

Cats that are allowed to come and go as they please (both indoors and out) seem to be the happiest cats to me. They can go out and lay in the sun, chase a bird, catch a mouse, roll in the dirt .. then come back in where it is quiet and relax.

true src...but omg my cats used to be indoors only...the older ones were indoor only till they wer 8 and one day one of em just bolted outside when we opened the door. Dead of winter she went running off the porch and man did she jump in the air so high when her feet hit the snow ...it was sooo funny exceot it took me an hour to cox her back inside out from under the snowless bush she had darted off to.

after that youd think shed want to stay inside but nope. That was just the start of it all. Luckily we moved from that place though cause with them escaping every once in awhile with 2 rotweilers right next door who loved to eat cats...umm yeah im glad we moved somewhere safer for them to explore

i prefer my cat to be indoors as i live smack dead in the middle of city. Now if i was livin in the country somewhere i would let him out and in as much as he wanted

Out doors. Cats can take care of themselves very well. They know whats goin on out there more than you do.

Well as we all know cats are curious kritters. They watch birds through the windows and such. Maybe your's was just nosey enough to think of going outside. She probably was completely freaked out once she got out there though. I can't imagine living my life somewhere that isn't noisy, smelly, or odd feeling .. then BOOM .. everything changes in 2 seconds time.
