Castration as a punishement?

they have something called chemical castration... it completely removes all the sex drive.. it should be mandatory.. and violent sex offenders need to be on strict parole for the rest of their lives after being released.. if not institutionalized for life.

It really doesn't work, if it would work, it should be optional, but it doesn't work. I study psychology (social psychology as an specialization) and I assure you it won't prevent him from raping. It's all about the power and control, and the fear they see in the eyes of the victim.

To give a more extended opinion on this subject, I would say sexual abusers are complex individuals. They are not what you would call legally insane (they do not suffer from psychosis), but from that to say that they are sane, I really think I would disagree. As a psychology student and a human being I consider therapy and treatment the only possible way to bring back to society any type of agressor as long as it is possible. And that's what I think prisons are for, to rehabilitate people. That said, if it's not possible, I think those people should never be let out, until the day they really are rehabilitated. If someone is rehabilitated there's no real reason for them to be in prison (I'm talking about severe crimes here).
And just in general, revenge is not justified under any means when you want to look at yourself in the mirror and think you are better than a rapist or a killer. I know people are in different stages of developement but I will never understand how a good human being enjoys thinking about revenge of any kind.

do we all think that someone like this could not be rehabilitated? is this because we can see our some of our own sexual urges as something that cannot be changed? I'd like to gouge the eye of unwanted lust, which to me, can be just as repulsive.

I believe we will find a way to rehabilitate this people, no doubt. Psychology is a young science and advances very fast.

yes, i agree. i also feel that it is just another habbit that takes time to break. I'm sure most of them aquired it from childhood, performed on or witnessed. There is not one thing we do, that we do not learn from another
