How do you feel about castration as a punishment for violent sex offenders?

It doesn't work. A sex offender attacks not because of the sex drive, but because of a need of power. If he doesn't have a penis, he will rape a woman with whatever he can find.

they have something called chemical castration... it completely removes all the sex drive.. it should be mandatory.. and violent sex offenders need to be on strict parole for the rest of their lives after being released.. if not institutionalized for life.

You have to understand its a mental thing also. Removing their sex drive won't stop them from rape or anything, since rape is not usually not a sexually driven crime.

part of me does think that repaying them in kind (or threefold) is a better idea.. but i have strong convictions against rape of any nature...

Sex offenders aren't usually insane or anything. Sex offenders are normally people who have been the victim of child abuse themselves or just abusive relationships in their earlier life that give them a mental penchant for violence against either women or men or both.

I just don't think disfiguring people will solve anything. Just send them to jail/therapy.

Geez, whatever happened to counseling and working with sex offenders, instead of against? I mean, these people are loonies, but instead of punishing them, we should help them.

They may be sick and twisted human beings, but they are still human. They deserve the same rights we all deserve, granted that they accept the punishment. The punishment should not be a scar on their body for the rest of their life.

Sex crimes are not just about power according to research.

IMO repeat offenders (pedophiles and violent rapists) were the crimes were confirmed with DNA testing should be castrated.

you wouldnt have to disfigure them to castrate them. They make these things called nudicles for dogs who have been nudered, they are prosthetic testicals. slap a coupple of them babies in there and there is no disfiguration.

As far as the subject of the topic is concerned, i think it is a posibility for those who show no sines of reform, but I think life imprisonment is a beter option.

It doesn't work though, so what's the point? revenge? I want to believe people are better than that. There are things called human rights and castration is cruel and inhuman. Even chemical castration doesn't work. And even when there are advances in psychological treatment, they are not enough yet.

I would like to believe I'm better than a rapist, to be honest. Revenge is not something I call justice.
