You have to remember that the purpose of this movie is to introduce people to Captain America, so a full backstory was necessary.

Yup, I agree and I took that into consideration of course but I still saw it that way :willy_nilly:
( Most reviews show the same thing too hence some only gave it 3-3.5 stars due to that)

However there were lots of good scenes I liked depicting war, patriotism and heroism :thumbup

I didn't find the story slow at all. You have to remember that the purpose of this movie is to introduce people to Captain America, so a full backstory was necessary.

If you noticed, the the title of the movie was "Captain America: The First Avenger"

I'll wait and make sure I catch it when it runs in the "cheap seat" movie theater we go to (I've heard it did a good job of sticking to the comic book), but what I'm really looking forward to is when "The Avengers" come out next year.

Last time I got excited about a movie like the Avengers was when "The Empire Strikes Back" came out and I had heard beforehand that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father:D

This.

I rank it about even with Thor and just below the Iron Man movies.

Yep.

Stick around after the credits for a sick Avengers trailer. :D
