It's tough trying to separate authority from friendship and vice versa. Sometimes, I have to be hard on my stepdaughter or the residents at work. Other times, I want to be their friends. It's a helluva balancing act. If you're too friendly when you need be in a place of authority, people take advantage. If you're bossing people around all the time it seems like you never have fun or get personal with anyone. I've learned to accept the fact that I can't please them all. It's my job to be the best parent and the hardest worker possible, not to be everyone's friend. Anybody know what I mean?
