I'm starting to think you have an anit-American streak in you. However, while we do have tariffs, subsidies, and other restrictions on imports, we are still one of the most free economies in the world. With that said I'm against any kind of government interference at all in our economy, but it's an unrealistic wish.

Also, it's just about impossible to know where anything is made any more. Many American companies have been bought and traded all over the world and often times it happens with out making the news or is quickly skipped over. If anybody wanted to buy American it would take hours of research to track all your products and companies, and not to mention finding out who the parent companies are and where they are located.

This is just another move by Obama to do his best at destroying America and its economy.

Anti-American streak? No way. My brother-in-law is a white american who lives in Cali with his family and we get along pretty well. I will just speak my mind. People are already sick and tired of USA with Bush and his cronies bullshitting for the last 8 years especially the muslim world and Obama has to walk the talk instead of NATO (no action talk only)

We shall see if Obama is about action or talk soon. N. Korea has fired off a multi stage rocket today, and I have yet to hear of any action taken against N. Korea. Actions should have been taken immediately with the nuclear test several weeks ago.

If the muslim world has a problem with the US, then they should have kept their extreme brothers in check. They failed and now we have to protect our way of life, which is exactly what Bush did.

Bush and company panicked with the aftermath of 9/11. They were too hasty and there was no justification for the invasion of Iraq. Bush has committed himself in Iraq and Afghanistan and there is no pulling back now in the short term

I understand you guys may be pissed, but don't for a second think that all Americans are the way you say they are. It really ticks me off when I find a thread and we're just bashing the shit out of everyone cause some assholes in office made a decision. Am I saying the decision was right? No. Am I saying the decision was wrong? No. I dont know enough about the issue to really comment on it. But dont think that we are all sitting in America thinking we're better than every one. That just seems to be the image the people that represent us are putting out.

True, there may be a few businesses like that. I can also tell you I've never come across one and they definitely don't exist in my area. Also consider that nearly all the population does at least some shopping at wal-mart.

For example, do you know who owns the following companies? American or non-American? Try to do so without searching the net.

Gerber
Deer Park
Haagen-Dazs
Stouffers
Lean Cuisine
Hot Pockets
Boost
Jenny Craig
Power Bar
Fancy Feast
Purina pet food
Friskies
Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, Inc.

I am going to say that none are 'American' and they are owned by Wal-Mart.

I think it is time... for the North American countries to become one; that way all the NA countries can benefit from each other (because they are the same country) and no one gets fucked in the rear.

Solves that problem.

Push that idea to other continents, combine all countries.

Then the big push... a real global entity: the Terra Federation.

As I see it the problem escalates when your politicians spew that crap out because the more they do it the more the regular Joe eat it up, hook line and sinker. The more shit they throw at the wall the more it's going to stick.

I'm not beating up the American public but it really angers me when they are not fed the whole truth.

I hear you man. But what is one to do, ya know? :(

Everyone is so tied up with trying to stay afloat that these things seem to slip by. People weren't meant to live like this. The whole world is so wrapped in what really doesn't matter. Rather than better the world as a whole, the majority of the people in the positions to do real good are only focused on their pocket book or own personal agendas. I'm affraid to do research on this stuff sometimes. Anything politcal really. What if I am perceptive enough to tell one from the other? The greedy from the virtuous? Most likely the negative will out weigh the positive and I'll be left knowing for sure that our world is in the crapper. I'd rather leave everything to the fates and try to keep my mind on what really matters. Whatever the heck that may be... :humm:

I think when it comes to this buy america or buy canadian, they are saying buy the big stuff, like cars, trucks and wood, meat, dairy from our own countries...which is a good idea really, because it'll kick start all the smaller companies again and get the economic engine going again.

For the most part, what we buy is chinese made in jap korea malaisa shite...

They have just used the wrong somewhat over patriotic way to say try to buy locally....typical american government and typical spinless canadian government taktics.... comes down to us the people to tell them to piss off and to continue to do ad buy what the hell we want. Its just ignorant talk from overly educated arseholes. Its the rich talking down to the ignorant fools who believe in everything they are told....and a lot do, or we wouldn't have war in the east.

....no such thing as buy one countries product any more...most of what we buy that has a label saying our country mihgt JUST be the label that is made in our country, where as the rest is made in some factory in india or some other third world country....

its just bullshit to breed more bullshit... its a way of keep anomosity and paranoia amoungst the stupid who would listen to shite.

All those brands are owned by Nestle, which is headquartered in Switzerland.

Fuck that... I'm ready for a fucking rumble. Let me at 'em.........

This subject has been bugging the hell out of me for the past few days. On a personal note I am from the old school where a mans word is his bond. I know it's foolish to think that way but old habits die hard and if I make a deal with someone by crackey I do my best to stick to it. It would take some event for me not to keep my word and I sure as hell wouldn't change it without discussions with the other party. NAFTA.. either you have a deal or you don't. To alter it in any way without agreement from all parties is criminal as far as I'm concerned. When did those damn politicians, both American & Canadian, become athletes where it's ok to say " fuck it ", I'm changing the deal and I don't care what you think and if you don't sign I ain't showing up for camp.

Bastards... fuck 'em all, but more so the American federal politicians for now cuz it was just our municipal heads that said piss on the Yanks and them muniheads don't have any power anyhow. Pricks...........

US protectionism is beginning to backfire.
Beijing orders 'Buy China' for stimulus projects
By JOE McDONALD – 3 hours ago
BEIJING (AP) — China has imposed a requirement for its stimulus projects to use domestically made goods — a move that could strain ties with trading partners after Beijing criticized Washington's "Buy American" stimulus provisions.
Projects must obtain official permission to use imported goods, said an order issued by China's main planning agency and eight other government bodies.
