Though the Judge has also issued a stay on actually overturning it while the defense pursues an argument as to why it should stand pending an appeal.

Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples

I expect this one to go to the Supreme Court after it hits the 9th Circuit Court, which I'm almost certain will rule in favor of the plaintiffs.

I don't think same-sex people want to be superior to anyone.. Having equal rights is not being superior..

At least not in this context..

I'm glad it's been overturned. But hey, religion does not try to ram it's rules down your throat does it? Just ask Tuffdisc. ;)

It took more than just the religious to vote Prop 8 into law.

I live in a fairly republican city it was disturbing seeing the families outside forcing their young kids to hold signs with them against gay marriage, as if they knew anything about it.

and most of the signs if they werent "save family values" it was "preserve christian values"

I'm confused... where did you read that anywhere? The judge in his decision said that all Prop 8 did was to make heterosexual couples superior to same-sex couples.

i would agree. Intolerance, bias, predjudice in it's rawest form is often found outside of mainstream religion

I agree, but please religion is camped out right in the middle of this issue pushing for a specific outcome.

I have no problems w/gay marriage. How sad others do. Especially when it will never involve them.

It's the 21st Century for pete's sake...........

It pisses me off when politicians scream about the 'sanctity of marriage'. pppffffttttttt..... When it would be financially beneficial for my husband and I to divorce to afford heath care, there is no 'sanctity' in the political spectrum. It's just a flag to wave at those opposed to gays having civil rights to get votes. blah.

Sanctity is the purview of the Church, not the government. We're not an agrarian society anymore, and nobody holds civil marriage in high esteem. Divorce is almost as easy as marriage, and you can get married without even leaving your car in Las Vegas. This whole problem would go away if the government would simply stop acknowledging marriage in any form.

Yes and my comment in return was that IMO I didn't think gays couples would want to superior to anyone. I don't see what is so confusing about my statement ?

Nobody said that they wanted to be superior... this is about equality. I'm just confused as to where your statement came from.

I guess I just don't understand why the statement was made then. Because there was nothing said here or in the article about gays wanting superior rights.
