Cake vs Brownies

Ok, word of warning: my girlfriend and I are arguing over this. Well its not a serious agrument, but ya, shes wrong. So heres my question...

Are brownies the same as cake?

Stupid question I know, but she seems dead set that brownies are a "type" of cake. Anybody else heard of a phenomenon like this? Brownies are cake? WTF!

Care to weigh in on the debate? Why not, which do you prefer?

There are brownies that are Just brownies..

And there Are Cake Brownies..

But yes technically you are both right.. There are cake brownies, And there are just brownies.

Two very different things. I believe the major difference is cake has a leavening agent.

Actually Brownies are usually thinner and chewy..

cake brownies are Fluffier..

It is really about how many eggs you use.. Go to the Store. Pick up a box of brownie mix.. you will see in the instructions it tells you "for more cake like brownies use 2 eggs" lol

But Then again I make all mine from Scratch.. and I prefer actual brownies..

The little Square brownies that are usually sugar laced.. those are considered Cake Brownies ..

Yeah, cake rises and brownies don't exactly. They do a little, but not enough to say they are cake. Plus they compact back down to become chewey, unlike a cake which stays fluffy.

Definately different.
