Iraq was a defensive war. Islamic terrorists, related to Saddam's government, at the least by idealogy, attacked us on 9/11. So we struck back in Iraq and Afghanistan (we probably would have gone to Iran if we hadn't gotten stuck).

Son, that's THE BIG LIE and you swallowed it. Seems to be a lot of that going around.

(Psst- all of the hijackers were Saudi. Saddam did not allow terrorists except his own special police to abuse his own people.)

The thing is the world has never seen a war between two military superpowers since the 40's.

And technology has changed so much in that time (nuclear weapons for a start) that the damage could be absolutely catastrophic.. And that's part of the reason I believe the US didn't invade Iran and risk Russian vengeance. Neither side wants to witness first hand the effects of large scale modern warfare between two giants.

Also on accounts of the bombers being Saudi - it's also worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia is a huge oil producer and ally of the United States, and has an absolutely disgusting human rights record - equal or worse than Saddam Husseins. But hey, we gotta' stick by them...

Saddam was removed because he wanted to trade Iraqi oil in Euros, which would have caused the petrodollar to fall, and hit the US (and UK) economy.

Where did you come up with that outlandish theory? It's cause Saddam tried to wack Bush's dad, don't you know anything? ;)

Friends of the Bush family and all...

Some historical perspective for your reading pleasure and I added a link to the first post: US, ISRAEL & BIG OIL INVOLVED IN GEORGIAN DISPUTE.

I thought he already did trade in oil in Euros, and quite successfully if I remember rightly, no doubt he played a large part in making the Euro the only viable contender against the $/

Say what you want about Saddam, but he was no economic fool that's for sure.

Here's my point- When you live in a glass house, don't throw stones.

If you start wars, if you condone torture, if you condone indefinite imprisonment without legal representation, you have no authority to criticize others, and in the end it will come back and bite you on the ass, when you criticize or when your soldiers are held captive.

Like Bush has any room to talk. Also, didn't Georgia start this conflict? And why is it the west seems bent on antagonizing Russia? First the missile defense shield in Poland and now the push to add former soviet block nations to NATO. It's like they are trying to surround Russia and poke them with a stick.

I agree 100%... Georgia started this crap and Russia is slapping them back into place to make an example of them. I think they are going too far in their response though.

It's funny that you here the president and both candidates admonishing Russia for this when it was Georgia that poked a sleeping bear.

Stop watching Fox news and pick up a damn paper. :p

The major news outlets seem to be leaving this part out, but it was Georgia that struck first... But Russia was waiting and ready. Now they are going over the top to make a prime example to other European countries in the area.

The sad part is, Bush blew his credibility and he doesn't have a leg to stand on. He's railing on Russia that regime change is not acceptable in the 21st century... well unless it's us doing it. And if Russia continues to push further into Georgia, we have nothing backing up our words. George can say he won't stand for it and Russia will just say "What are you going to do about it?" It's not like our military is in an shape to take on Russia. That's what the war in Iraq has done to America... it has blown our credibility and it's broken the military.

For your information, I hardly watch any news at all, Fox or otherwise. People today are too stupid, I can't bear to see it. I just watch Glenn Beck or pick up a WSJ once a week.

And now you've changed my opinion on the war (Russia and Georgia).
