Britons 'love fast food more than Americans'

America's reputation as the home of fast food is under threat from the British, who are more addicted to burgers, chips and pizza than any other nation in the world.

Almost half of all Britons would be unable to give up fast foodDespite fears over an obesity epidemic, a survey has found that Britain's relationship with junk food has become even stronger than that enjoyed by the US, traditionally known for its devotion to all things deep fried.

Fat or thin, it's not the state's business
Children who miss sleep 'at risk of obesity'

A poll of 9,000 people in 13 nations found almost half of British respondents would be unable to give up fast food.
Some 45 per cent of those surveyed in the UK agreed with the statement "I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up", while 44 per cent of Americans said they would be unable to shun burgers, pizzas and chicken wings.

The research, carried out by the BBC, found that attitudes to food and weight vary wildly around the world.
It revealed while most French people get on the scales every day, Singaporeans are the least likely to weigh themselves.
Saudi Arabians and those from the United Arab Emirates were among the top consumers of low-fat food products, meal replacements and food supplements.
They were also the most interested in weight-loss, gym memberships and home exercise equipment.
Few of the respondents blamed their government for rising levels of obesity, and blamed the variety of unhealthy food available on the shelves.

Yeah, bloody Americans trying to take over our country with their McDonalds, people are eating a lot less healthily than they used to over here. Our obesity problem is still nowhere near as bad as the USA's though!;)

Yeah, the American ones are designed to lure in kids when the're young though, you don't get free toys given away with meals at the local chippy or kebbabery.;)

I blame the NHS
If brits had to pay for there junk fueled illnesses there might be less of them

At any rate i would question the validity of those statistics, the sample is far too small and it doesn't specify how people were picked, i'm presuming they just picked people off the streets in cities so the sample would be ridiculously un-proportional
Typical BBC looking for shock stats

Erm...we do pay for junk fueled illness, that is what tax is for.;) Agree with the rest of this though.

I think the worst is what is happening to the kids in Europe (probably in the US too) with fast food and all that junk they eat... :(

I was a "fat" kid...but that was due to my mom's Italian cooking...we didn't have enough money for fast food for a long time!

I don't do fast food with any regularity, and I'm still getting fat!!!!
That'll be the beer then!!!!:p

And i agree with Pudding Time! 9000 people in 13 countries is a pointlessly low number for any kind of survey! All it proves is that the UK is the most honest nation out of the 13 polled!! Cus obviously everyone else lied!!!!!!!;)

Getting fat doesn't 'happen' to anyone unless they have a medical problem. It is a conscious choice made by each of us - for ourselves and for our children as to what we put into our bodies and how much we exercise.

I blame the EU, liberal cock-suckers!
dont start that eu stuff with me again ronor i shall hurt you with my pointy mindstick:D

all fast food is crap, and sadly was imported into the UK from america.
i will say that french bigmacs with grain mustard and decent bread and meat are quite nice.

the problem is people dont know how to cook and cant be arsed to cook any more.
advertising and those bloody happy meal toys make it difficult for parents
msg or some other magic ingredient make you eat them, knowing its garbage and want another immediately afterwards

.....and fast food is so cheap these days. Probably going to sound like an old fart here but we hardly ever had fast food when I was a kid. Maybe once a month we'd get a takeaway from the chip shop and that was a real treat. None of these toys with the meal to entice you either.
Personally, I physically can't eat McDonalds. Seriously, it makes me throw up eating or drinking anything from there, even their overpriced salads. I can get much better salads for half the price from the supermarket anyway.
