but what you suggest will not deter others, and if the states in which thye live had the ability to publically "deal" with offenders like this in the past, such justice would not have stopped them

even the tightest maximum security wont protect them from
the attention other inmates, whilst theior demise may not be public i suspect it may be earlier than they hitherto might have expected and it probably wont be of natural causes
