I had four kids under eight years of age at one time, and it was impossible for me to get up and cook breakfast for everyone.. I had a tiny baby and a three year old.. a six year old in first grade, and an eight year old in third grade..
We lived in NYC and everyone had to be ready to get out of the house by 8:15 in the morning, because we had to walk ten blocks to get to school in time.. shine, rain or snow..
My son, who was the oldest one, came up with the idea of having leftover dinner for breakfast..
I would cook extra, and he would prepare the portions in their plates and put them in the fridge right after we finished eating dinner.. In the morning, while I was getting myself and the two younger ones ready, he would put the food in the microwave and feed himself and his sister... and even the three year old if she wanted to eat..
While they were in school, and before I had to leave the house again with the two younger ones, to go get them back home.. I would cook dinner and leave the table set..
We would have a very early dinner after we got home from school.. about 4PM.. and then tackle the homework after that..
Before going to bed, they would have a snack.. usually the bowl of cereal, or whatever they would have had for breakfast..
I was able to keep that schedule, because my husband has always worked in restaurants.. and those are very odd hours.. He would leave for work around 9AM, and came back very late at night, so he never ate with us..
What worked for me, might not work for you or someone else.. but, remember that people in many countries don't eat a traditional breakfast.. in Japan, they eat soup and fish..
So... Think of your possibilities and switch your meals around..
Have breakfast for dinner and dinner for breakfast..
I don't know how old your son is, but.. could he bring lunch from home, instead of waiting in line?..
They sell small containers that will keep food hot or cold for hours and fit inside the school bags, so he could bring a sandwich and soup to school..
You can make a sandwich and freeze it before going to bed.. In the morning that goes into the school bag and will be ready to eat for lunch.. Same goes for drinks..
You can cook breakfast once a week and freeze it in portions.. In the morning, pop it in the microwave and have it ready in minutes.. A sandwich of scrambled egg and canadian bacon, or breakfast sausage links is very easy to heat up at 50% in the microwave for a few minutes in the morning.... and leftover dinner is easier..
