cutting, you can be so cruel;)

I'd like to think I give as good as I get. My ex-girlfriends probably won't agree with that sentiment tho.

I guess the question would be, do you say chili pepper with one L or chilli pepper with two Ls ?

Realistically the name is a Derivative from the pepper that made the sauce hot is it not ?

:ninja

Very true. I think the US has adopted the Spanish spelling for it, which would make sense, given the proximity to Mexico.

Cilli is incorrect... it's not an American thing at all, it's an international one. Here is my proof

Cilli is most definitely incorrect. Stop being so cilli.

But the proper name for chillies is from the Nahuatl word: "chilli".

And in the Oxford English Dictionary it's "chilli" :p

you know if you're a Brit, or Canadian, or just want to spell things properly, you can install a British English dictionary into your browsers. By default, they tend to come with the International or US English dictionaries installed.

No money for take away right now.:thumbdown Just keeping it simple, jacket potato and chilli con carne.

P.S. Hmmm, wonder what the American word or spelling for chilli and carne is, American spell checker reckons I'm spelling it wrong when I'm clearly not.

Chili con carne. Carne is Spanish, so that's why it's hitting on it.

Completely off topic, but do people in England say "reckon" a lot? I miss that word.

And I hate when things happen that you have no control over! We finally got hot water back and they're shutting the gas off again this weekend. Stupid FIOS people.

EDIT: Perhaps I should read whole threads before I reply....

Not as much as you might think, we're actually very understanding of those who lack the ability to fathom a language not entirely in phonetic :jk

I remember at primary school the slower children were being taught to spell phonetically... I wonder what jobs they all have these days?

I was taught to spell phonetically (not cos I was slow but because my mum taught me to read that way) and it fucked me up for life with my spelling. I have to remember all sorts of ways to help me remember how to spell. Normally cunts like Zorak getting stressy when I get it wrong and making me feel terribly embarrassed. My reading is good though.

But becuase I could read and write to an advanced level before I started school, it meant I was taken out of my primary school classes for the first 2 years and allowed to do history instead which I loved.

And I don't have a job, I'm unemployed so it got me well far :p:surrender

But on a side note, they are teaching children to read and write phonetically. The children's programmes now feature it.
