Sorry never had one. Have had blood taken for many many tests and I don't like that! I am allergic to nylon bandages so I usually try and do without.

Aw! Am sorry to hear you need to have a blood transfusion done :( Hope all is well!!

I've not had one but had done some on my patients. Hives. rashes is one of the many reactions to blood transfusion of course. Given your medical background too, am sure you'll do well! Let the person performing the transfusion on you know ASAP if and when you have reactions like 1) chills 2) dizziness 3) fainting 4) flank pain 5) back pain and of course the rashes/hives. So they can stop the BT immediately and your symptoms taken cared of accordingly!

Good luck :thumbup

No idea why your son would break out. First I have ever heard of that. You can have some of mine if you like. I have too much blood so every now and then they have to drain me. :D

Most patients do not have any side effects from blood transfusions. About 1 to 2% of transfusions may cause fever and chills or an allergic reaction, such as hives. If you have had these side effects during past transfusions, you may get medicine before your transfusion to help reduce any reaction. In addition, white blood cells are usually filtered out of red blood cell and platelet transfusions, because the white blood cells can cause fever and chills.

You might ask if there is a test which could indicate you might be in this low percent that have a reaction since your young one had hives. Or ask if you can take some medicine in advance. I am assuming you need blood soon and can not bank any?

for the past week i have been naused, dizzy, weak, pale, my blood pressure keeps dropping especially when i stand up

Your Hct and Hgb plus maybe Iron might had been low eh? Hoping your WBCs are WNL to make you not prone to infection given your past medical history. Take it easy changing positions (standing/sitting etc) given your symptoms ;)

Take care!
