Traditionally they have been more concerned about the lower not being over 80 and not as concerned about the upper one being high. I think you are well within the norms but suggest you contact a health professional to confirm. Also those home BP testers are not necessarily going to be accurate. Next time you go to a doctor bring the home one with you and compare the results

You can take your bp every 5 minutes and it will be different. There are many things that come into play to make it rise or fall. I've had open heart surgery and follow mine quite close and if your readings were mine Pink I sure as hell wouldn't worry about it. That said AA had the best idea. The old ticker is not something to fool with and if you think your readings will cause you stress then talk it over with sawbones.

When I was sick mine hit something like 82/57.... they didn't seem to like that too much.
The rule of thumb is anything above your normal base line BP of about 10-15 mm Hg (mm Mercury) wld be considered high or pre-hypertensive as they call it. Check with your MD what the reading was when they told you you have high BP. Also know your baseline BP readings- the averages where you don't have any signs and symptoms associated with High blood pressure like nape pains, headaches, light headedness, dizziness etc. Your baseline can also be taken via your medical records @ MD office from the other times you had been seeing that MD. Ask them what was your highs and lows then go from there to add the 10-15 mm Hg. Every person's baseline BP differs. My normal BP is 90/57- so when i have a BP of 120/80-that's already high for me. Hope that helps and i didn't confuse you more :p

I get worried about my blood pressure being taken too, I went to a doctor a year ago who took my blood pressure and the pumpy thing was squeezing way too hard on my arm, boy I felt like fainting, I was so freaked out.
But then I had my blood pressure taken the other day and I wasn't as freaked out, I just looked away and kept calm and the doctor didn't squeeze as hard. But I can't recall what my blood pressure was on both occasions lol. The first doctor was happy with it, the second one I saw recently was just like meh it's okay. Weird lol.

well my doc recommended i test my self at home to eliminate the stress of being at the docs.
the fist day i did it was high cos i think in general i just hate the cuff squeezing on my arm. ive been doing it everyday and im getting use dot it and im letting my self calm down between putting the cuff on and starting the test.

my test was 114/80 which im completely happy with. ive been eating better too. and its really pushed me to take my dieting seriously. Since cutting out cheese and bread and cos my shifts have changed at work i have lost around 8 pounds in 3 weeks so im happy :D gonna keep it up.

Sorry, I didn't see this until today. Not sure if the others picked up on the fact that the BP you gave wasn't what it read at your doctor's office, it was your reading at home, correct??? Anyway, my mom has the same problem as your mom...her BP spikes at the doctor's office. She DOES have hypertension, though...as does my younger brother...and as I do as well. HOWEVER, since going on South Beach and losing weight, my BP has gotten back down to the normal range even after cutting my meds down to 3 times a week. He expects to take me off my BP meds completely on my next visit. Before I got so overweight my BP used to run the low side of normal (110/70 on average). Continue to monitor at home and see how it goes...if you see something that concerns you, speak to your doctor about it. If he didn't feel the need to put you on meds I wouldn't be too awful worried about it. Good job on the 8 pounds, by the way!!!

Diet and exercise are always the key to good BP readings. Keep up the good work :clap

Remember that the most dangerous type of elevated reading is with high diastolic- the 2nd number e.g. 120/80- the 80 is the diastolic. Why is it much more dangerous when it's high? Bcoz- that's when your heart is resting and so it shouldn't be higher than normal. Especially when both diastolic and systolic( 1st #) is high- is when TIA ( Transient Ischemic Attacks ) and Stroke may happen.....

Anyway, you're doing great- so keep at it....
