That was the feeling I had in London too, Intruder, that's one of the reasons why I loved it. I love different cultures and races and I think it enriches a country greatly. I was happy to see that even when you were in the City, even busniess men and women where a multicultural mix.

The tension occurs because USA is a huge place unlike england. After slavery, alot didnt change directly after. The former slaves did not have anywhere to go. They ended up working for the same masters for pennies. Even afterwards plantation work is labor work, therfore you wont make a decent living. You end up living in projected housing with other poor workers. When extream poverty is crowded together, its a thriving place for criminals to breed.

That could be one of the reasons but I don't think is the only one. The way the majority welcomes and accepts the minority also counts.

:) Just trying to get some attention with the title. ;)

My wife and I were out shopping today, and while she was trying on new clothes, a very charming black Briton wandered in. We talked small talk for 5 or 10 minutes or whatever, then went our separate ways.

Two years ago I spent a week in London for Christmas. Talking to this gal tonight reminded me of an observation I made while I was there.

In England, there was no sub-culture that I could detect with the different ethnic groups. Black people, white people, brown people, Asian people (oriental for you English chaps on site) they were all just Britons. Same accents, same speech patterns, etc...

I wonder why that isn't the case here in America? I'm not saying for sure weather it's better or worse, just curious. To me, the racial tension felt to be almost non-existent, and I suspect that was the reason.

What are your thoughts? I know we have some people here from England. Do we have any Americans of African decent here to speak up?

The reason there is no racial tension is because of what I just bolded above. If everyone talked, dressed and acted the same in America it would be the same way here. Instead, the blacks want to stand out as their own culture (not saying good/bad here people) that they dress, talk and act way differently than what is considered the norm here by the majority. This is all I will say on the matter because I think a lot of you tend to twist words and read too much into things as I am not a racist person. I would imagine there is a sub-Culture in every country, you are just not aware of it because your media doesn't blow everything out of proportion and make everything look worse than it is.
