Okay.... So who is gonna do it? Shopping that is. :)

I've done it a few years, but this year.... I'm not. Guess that must mean I've got everything I want, right? :D

Where do you plan on standing in line at and for what item(s)?

No fucking way. The one year that I worked retail for it made me miserable enough, I won't play any part in making life hell for retail workers. There's never really anything worth getting in the super early deals anyway, or if there is... they'll go to the people that are already in line.

I don't normally do it, but my nephew has asked if I'll camp out w/ him at Best Buy. He wants to see if he can get a good deal on a PS3 since his step-mom wouldn't let him take his when she kicked him out of the house.

Explain to your nephew that time is money. If he has the time to spend and camp out over night to do retail shopping, the odds are not in his favor that he will be able to make enough money as he gets older that he won't have to worry about camping out at a retail store "for a great deal". I'm sorry, when I hear people sleeping out at a retail store for a deal, I can't help but think of "******* idiots".

My nephew is an 18 y/o high school senior that was kicked out of his home by his stepmom and a dad that didn't stand up for him so now he has to live w/ me...I think I'll indulge him and spend the few hours outside a store. I'm looking at it as bonding time and I'm the only person that will do it. Some things are more important than life lessons and time spent together is NOT time wasted. Just my 2 cents.

Well, thank you. ;) I love my niece and nephew more than anything in this world. He's 6 months out from graduating high school and his biological mother doesn't provide the steady homelife he needs to get through high school successfully (besides, she lives in Atlanta). I could wring my brother's neck for what he's let his wife put him through. He came to our house w/ 2 shirts, a pair of blue jeans, a pair of work pants, and 3 pairs of underwear...his stepmom wouldn't allow him to take anything else w/ him. I spent $300 refurbishing his wardrobe at Old Navy. He's added more w/ the money he earns working at Publix. I gave him my bedroom so that he would have a room to call his own and I now share a bed w/ my mom. Not the ideal arrangement, but that's what you do for family, right??? ;)

Just put out $85 for his graduation invitations and I need to order his cap and gown next month, so that's another $75 or so. I've never wanted kids and now I've found myself "raising" an 18 year old. What amazes me, though, are the number of people who have told me I should be charging him rent since he's 18. *smh* I just tell them they don't know the kind of life he's had (too long of a story, but before my brother got custody of him he was in a physically abusive household). He's got a lot of anger and sometimes I have to calm him down from his "defy authority" stance, but all in all he's a good kid that's never been in any trouble and I'm blessed to have him in my life. He's been at his other grandmother's house since Friday and the house is too quiet w/o him there, LOL

I've shopped on black friday but never did the whole standing in line thing. Somebody ALWAYS gets hurt! Was it last year that a Walmart worker was trampled to death?

This is absolutely AWESOME Tash! :) This is the time in his life he needs family and love the most - and you have stepped up and given him both.

Ya'll have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you. :) Hope you and yours have a Happy Thanksgiving as well!!! :) I'll be glad for my nephew to come back home tomorrow once he's done w/ Thanksgiving at his gram's house. We're gonna eat like fat kids and then be lazy as hell until it's time to hit up the stores. However, we're being told that there are already people lined up outside of Best Buy...so we may switch to computer shopping instead. I want him to have a really good Christmas this year...already went and took the money out of savings to get him the PS3. He doesn't know that...he's been saving up his own money.
